Polaron Turret

An automated sentry turret used sometimes by the Hyperion Federation.
The turret is armed with a small, rapid fire cannon. While it is inadequate against very strongly armoured targets such as tanks, it will make short work of any smaller vehicle that it can penetrate easily. The weapon has a fire rate of about 3 shots/s. Due to the caliber of the weapon it also has a long range. They are often placed on high locations like hills. It can also hit aircraft, but prioritizes ground vehicles if any are in sight. This is because it is more reliable against them. Against infantry, it remains extremely powerful but could be overwhelmed if subject to mass infantry attacks due to its lack of machine guns.
It works by scanning an area for heat signatures. The turret then scans each heat signature more closely to obtain IFF codes, so that it doesn't try to perform friendly fire. Even civilians are identified by the system, as before it fires the weapon can scan any person more thoroughly and obtain the persons DNA to be compared to known people on the Grand Archive. It will fire at anything that cannot be identified according to this, if built on default settings.They can be built by Engineer Flash Troopers on any location larger than about 1 metre in radius. They are built by using multitools as long as they have a matter plasma supply. The ground on most planets is not comprised of metal.
