HLBR - 95
The HLBR - 95, or Hard Light Battle Rifle, is a common weapon firing bolts of Hardlight used by the Hyperion Federation.
It fires in quick bursts of 3 rounds. It fires the bolts at high velocity and is powerful as a result. And yet, it remains very accurate, especially when in single fire mode, where the burst of 3 bolts are combined into 1 large bolt.
The weapon was designed to provide most HF infantry with a reliable, but basic, rifle that was highly accurate. The designers of the HLBR-95 chose hardlight for its high velocity property - so that the user would not need to lead much. Hardlight has far more penetrative power than photon streams and does not diffuse in atmosphere. A small payload could even be delivered by encasing an object in the hardlight bolts allowing the user to fire different types of ammunition.
It was found to even function while in the vacuum of space, in fact it seems to become more powerful. Although this information will not often come useful, the HF took note.
The wepaon is suplied power from a weak zero-point energy generator, as well as the high energy capacitor magazine. The ZPE generator is not powerful enough to form hardlight at a sufficiently high temperature, so requires the capacitors to fire.
