'Positron' ATV
Medium ATV used by the Hyperion Federation.
The Positron is a well known design and served the Federation for a long time. It still performs excellently and will likely remain in service for a long time.
Despite its hulking size, it is still quite fast, especially when off the ground, due to its use of very powerful jet engines. Its shield is strong as well, but presents a huge target. And it is armed to the teeth with chainguns, missiles and several large cannons. One of the weapons is remiscient of a rotary chaingun, spewing large high explosive shells. The forntal turret is a 4 barreled turret capable of firing a shell to huge velocity and range.
The real meat, however, lies in its spinally mounted Nightfall cannon, firing miniature fusion nuclear warheads. This is capable of elevating up and down and providing Hyperion forces with an extremely high yield artillery strike.
It has a few limitations however. The rotary cannon chaingun and 4 barreled howitzers cannot elevate, so the Positron best engages enemy forces at equal altitude. It has very little armour as well. The Positron set the standard for medium ATVs for almost every faction miltary in the Cluster. It has a length of roughly 100m and with of about 70m, so most medium ATVs in general appear to be around that size.The Nightfall cannon is a very useful portable, extremely high yield weapon sometimes used in artillery in very well fortified enemy locations. The longer a war lasts, the more people tend to die as a result of it so the HF doctrine is sometimes a highly agressive one, though they largely prefer to remain within the constraints of the Hyperion Ethics Committee - so they made the Nightfall no more powerful than it needed to be. The Nightfall cannon also has a very long range and is very accurate. The Positron also makes for a very powerful front line vehicle, but due to its cost is not usually used in that situation. In reality, these powerful armament is usually to protect artillery forces as well as itself from enemy attack. It is much more safe well behind HF lines. The high explosive rotary cannon is commonly used to suppress massive numbers of enemy forces by firing a large volume of large shells into enemy lines. It is perhaps more of a morale damaging weapon than a weapon meant for killing, but has its uses for denying a large number of enemy vehicles such as tanks, forcing them to remain in cover. In such an operation, HF forces sometimes approach the front or flank the enemy. Due to the matter manipulating nanobots of the HF being able to manipulate down to the atomic level, Positrons can vary significantly between each other. Many details within the vehicle are personalised to the crew to make it an excellent force that the crew can use very effectively. Although no 2 Positrons might be the same, there are several versions with more or different firepower, better armour or mobility devices. These upgrade packages can range within many roles.
