The Starkeeper

The Starkeeper (a.k.a. The Final Judge, Guide to the World Beyond, Lady of Starlight)

Iris

Iris always has been. She watched as the Divine Mantle of the Starkeeper was formed, adapting itself to fit her own likeness without her input. Most scholars agree that Iris is the eldest of the Gods based not only on Dratarian records, but on the reverence all other divines seem to have for her in their holy scriptures. The Pyrelord's Chant claims she watched as Mount Celestia rose from the void and the Abyss spiraled into existence. As one of the oldest beings in the universe, her wisdom and power are paramount and nearly unmatched, save by the power of Khora and the unlimited mind of Rayzadora. Iris has become known by many names, most notably as the Final Judge, thanks to her control over the passage from life to death. Souls that find themselves unburdened by oaths and deals always find their way through Iris's realm for judgement and placement. As the Guide to the World Beyond, it is up to her to measure the worth of a person's life in the material realm, and send them to the afterlife they have earned. She does not hold everyone to a single standard, however, as no single code could accurately judge so many millions of different people.   Each mortal has their own sense of what is truly right and wrong, and Iris accepts this fact, going through the pivotal moments of a person life with them and helping them identify with not only their regrets, but also their best choices. Mortals are able to view their lives with an impartial, unbiased clarity and realize whether they are worthy of life in the Promised Gardens or the Hells, or even if they're bound for an eternity in the Ebonsphere. The Lady of Starlight takes on the form of a person's most trusted friend to help ease their passage along the Bridge of Twilight, Iris's realm. It is from the Bridge that the mortal views their life and decides their own judgement. Iris is one of the many Old Gods that Khora did not banish or slay during his conquest of the heavens, instead becoming a close ally with him and acting as an advisor rather than challenging his position with her seniority. With their shared neutrality, the constantly battling forces of good and evil have weakened as of late, with many gods themselves shifting to a more neutral alignment.   A less important task Iris has taken on is the organization of the heavenly bodies. She has become known as the Conductor of Stars, responsible for rearranging the disorganized night lights to honor fallen heroes or demigods who earned an immortal legacy through truly righteous deeds during their mortal lives. When she is visited by the living, such as when the Archmage Rayzadora opened his mind to understand Existence, she can be seen as a swirling nebula in the vastness of open space, not quite taking on the full form of a mortal- her form is constantly shifting, her face never fully forming features. You may not see right arm until it suddenly moves from a previously unmoving swirl of starlight and matter, unnatural and yet comforting in its fluidity.
