The Pyrelord Character in Thelekar | World Anvil

The Pyrelord

The Pyrelord (a.k.a. Goddess of the Sun, Lord of Fire)

According to some ancient apocryphal texts, the Pyrelord was the first Divine Mantle to be assumed and worshipped on Thelekar. What greater example of something beyond mortality than the massive shining ball that provided life, light, and warmth to the planet below? Other Divine titles pass from one godling to another every few centuries, but not the Pyrelord. According to some Dratarian records, prior to Celestial Fall, only one name was ever attributed to the sun itself: Maliece the God-King.

Maliece Tomar

God-King was not a title given to Maliece, but was one of power and conquest. Mount Celestia was but a single mountain in the heavens before he extended his hands and brought the rest of the divines under his dominion, carving the glorious palace into its face and beginning a dynasty that would last for a thousands years. During his reign as Pyrelord, the imagery of the sun became less fiery and more holy, less primal and more divine, the burning oranges and reds replaced by beams of yellow and golden light. Where Maliece once may have taken the form of a roiling flame, he instead chose to model himself after mortality, resembling the many imperial patriarchs of Old Drataria. During this era, artists abandoned much of the primal origins known to give power to the Divines in favor of golden halos, human bodies, and otherworldly presences. This is, of course, one of the many issues that likely ledd to Celestial Fall and the Siege of Mount Celestia.    When Khora the Usurper first approached the Pantheon Floor, Maliece waved him and his warnings of Outer Wills away without a second thought. When Khora returned with proof, Maliece still could not fathom of a power that could rival that of him and his fellow divines. When the sky shattered and the Outer Wills flooded through, he was faced with the sudden realization that he could do nothing to stop this assault short of razing the planet and reseeding mortality during the aftermath. This was what Khora feared, and while his armies marched upon the shattered sky to battle the invaders, he and his most trusted companions marched upon the Pantheon Floor. The battle between the two was legendary, but in the end, the God-King was defeated and given no mercy. His body was bisected and cast to the earth below, the two halves becoming the cores for two volcanoes now known as the Smoldering Grove.

Vizara Solar

Vizara was one of Maliece's solars, a celestial being with substantial power of her own. It was her decision to aid Khora during his battle against the Outer Wills despite the God-King's wishes that earned her the Usurper's respect, and subsequently, the mantle of Pyrelord. She was tasked with reordering the heavens and keeping them safe from further attacks, and maintaining the true form of the Pyrelord: not a woman adorned in golden jewelry and fine clothing, but the raw, primal power of the sun itself.   Vizara has dutifully taken up this task, travelling across the cosmos and bending the worlds into shape with her raw power. Though she pays little attention to Thelekar as a result, she is heavily worshipped as the sun is essential to the day and night cycle, for plant growth, and for safety from the dangers of the night. Her most powerful organized following was formed recently under the Reborn Doctrine, a paladin order of tortles known as the Ironshell Paladins who have sworn to eliminate the creatures of the night for the protection of the day. One notable Ironshell was Storvex, a member of The Chain who was slain while thwarting the machinations of two opposing High Vampire Courts. He has since taken her side, as do all the Ironshell Paladins who die without breaking their oaths, and acts as one of her enforcers in the cosmos against chaotic creatures from the outer reaches of the universe.
