The Moonmaiden

Moonmaiden Selûne (a.k.a. She Who Changes, Our Lady of Silver)

Selûne

She Who Changes, the Moonmaiden, Our Lady of Silver; Selûne's form changes often, like the phases of the moon. Some days she may appear as an ethereal young girl of slender frame, dark eyes, and dark hair, wearing diaphanous robes colored white or resembling dappled moonlight, and other days a matronly middle-aged woman, plump yet fair and aging gracefully, with gray-streaked dark hair. She, unlike the other gods, seems to show no interest in commanding worship and often keeps her identity secret from those who meet her. She is often seen in the company of the goddess Iris, and it is unknown if their seeming partnership is merely personal or related to one of their divine duties.   Something the Moonmaiden takes great pleasure in, however, is appearing to mortals during pivitol moments in their lives in order to give them a gentle push in what she considers to be the right direction. Iris may be the Final Judge, but Selûne seems to enjoy changing the paths of those headed for self destruction to instead find peace and redemption. As the Moonmaiden, Selûne represents all aspects of it: the mystery, the power, the allure of the unkown. She most often is worshipped by clerics of the Arcana and Knowledge domains, as the moon is a great source of magical power to arcane practitioners. Myth states that her realm, the Lunar Archive, is within the moon itself, filled with floating bookshelves and knowledge of the infinite. The Archmage Rayzadora claimed to have visited the archive in his youth, and in his memoirs he claims that the entire moon is an avatar of Selûne, and the many millions of books is the manifestation of her own thoughts and knowledge built up since the dawn of time.
