The Desert Peninsula

Geography

The Fertile Barrens
Located along northern edge at the mouth to the jeweled sea the desert peninsula is covered in yellowish-orange sands, the Muhiphon as referred to by its few inhabitants, outside of the city of Zamarrid. The desert is know for its sporadic pristine oases as well as its large quantity of Sahuagin ruins, explorers, adventurers and historians flock to these ruins despite the dangerous fauna and undead that populate the ancient ruins. As the Sahuagin seemed to have horded magical items that are difficult or impossible to reproduce.

Localized Phenomena

The Red Storm
The frequent rockslide from the red rock mountains along the northern border is causing large amounts of small rocks & sediments to blend into the desert sands, the red rocks fragments are being picked up by strong winds and carried across the desert. The red rocks seem to have innate arcane properties and binding together rather than dispersing all across the desert. This has created a single roaming storm that travels between the northern and southern edges of the desert gaining in strength and size each time it passes by the mountain border.   This storm has led to migratory changes in the heliotrope gluttons, making many would be explorers and historians happy as new ruins are being uncovered at exhilarating rates in areas that the storm has passed through. Though not everyone is excited about this as the storm as it also has disturbed other more dangerous wildlife into moving closer proximity to smaller settlements and the city.

Fauna & Flora

The Hoffman Scorpion
This giant scorpions carapace is a sickly translucent yellow color with a dark copper underbelly, the Hoffman Scorpion is well know for its large size, as it tails can grow as long as 13 feet excluding the stinger itself which is normally another foot and the creature is also known for its habit to carry dozens of its children around with them well into maturity. If a Hoffman scorpion has given birth they will carry the young on the backs and inside the outer carapace, the children can be spotted through the carapace usually as white or yellow miniature versions clearly visible due to the translucent nature of it carapace.
The Hoffman Scorpion's relationship with its offspring is a defensive symbiotic relationship, the young will receive portions of whatever food the mother catches, and it's diet consists mostly, smaller insects, desert coyotes and unfortunate explorers. When threaten the young will also contribute in the defense of the mother scorpion. As the young grow the mother will often cull part of her brood in order to maintain her hunting agility, though it is not uncommon to see more elderly scorpions eaten by their own brood.
Primarily isolated to their individual brood units, sometimes multiple broods will share in a scavenged meal on occasion. Also a brood will burrow in near by desert oasis waiting for unsuspecting prey be cautious when approaching any uncleared oasis.

Heliotrope Gluttons
Traveling in pods of 3-5 the Heliotrope Gluttons appear almost aquatic in nature with their 20-30 independently moving fins along with a gapping mouth that can open up to a 20ft diameter and distinct pinkish-purple color, they travel along the desert surface gliding thought it with ease as they unhinge their jaws to enclose large portions of desert in their mouth and spit it back out into the sky. Using this and they large amount of fins they able to push and pull the desert sands incredibly efficiently. Normally docile they are considered dangerous when provoked as the sand they spit into the air can cause sandstorms if done in unison with the rest of the pod. The hunters have reported the Heliotrope Gulltons have spit large chunks of sand at threats with a crushing force and jumps of up to 15 yards that landing unsuspecting distant hunters.
