The Cathedral of Schimbaru

Lair of Dreams and Chaos

General Info

Schimbaru, the demi-plane of change, may not be as chaotic as its distant cousin, Limbo, but The Cathedral of Schimbaru, the fortress at the center of this demi-plaine, makes up for all of it. All portal and entrances lead to this "cathedral", and all spells and effects used to warp to Schimbaru immediately take the user to somewhere within this sprawling monstrosity of a building. The cathedral has a nearly 10,000 square foot foundation, and towers high into the air, almost completely out of sight. The numerous chambers and corridors within the Cathedral of Schimbaru are constantly changing, but this constant transformation is more constructed than the chaos of Limbo. The form of large portions of the Cathedral is formed by the thoughts and deeper psyche of whoever is inside it. Strange figures also wander the halls of the cathedral, and the identity and shape of these figures are also influenced by the thoughts of those inside the cathedral. This makes the nature of the cathedral and really the entirety of Schimbaru is a sort of embodiment of a given traveler's dreams, and the plane functions much like a dream would: a disconnected and subtly nonsensical story and world.

Origin

Originally, the Cathedral of Schimbaru was the alleged home base of the Lost Lord of Chaos, Khraura. Since Khraura was banished to an unknown corner of the Far Realm, the nature of this once magnificent temple warped into an everchanging labyrinth or passageways. This fortress was also the birthplace of the Deck of Many Things, and it is believed that it was that cursed relic which warped Schimbau to it current chaotic dream-like nature, and there may even be some lost cards left in the cathedral, scattered among the dark corners of this sprawling mess of corridors.
