Minotaur

Minotaurs live in honor-based lives where strength determines power in both the gladiatorial arenas and in daily life. At home on both land and sea, the Minotaurs rank among the ablest and most dangerous sailors in the world.

Homeless Warriors

Once they were powerful conquerors who believed it was their destiny to rule the known world and that their dominion would be one of conquest and military might, the Minotaurs of the world were forever humbled roughly six generations ago when their homeland became the battlefield of a war between several titans.   Left with only their honor, pride and strength, Minotaurs travels the world in search of the power and skill to reclaim what they lost. It is to this end that all Minotaurs are trained in weapons, armor, and tactics from a young age. While often traveling in small clans, the heart and leadership of Minotaur society, known as The Forum, can be found sailing in a fleet of ships from port to port.   The Minotaurs’ warrior pride stems from a combination of strength, cunning and intellect- three virtues they hold dear, and which they believe that this combination of traits is what sets them apart from their rivals.

Born Through Combat

Despite the loss of their homeland and the dispersing of their people, Minotaurs cling to their culture more than ever. Wherever the Forum docks grand gladiatorial tournaments are held. While the tournaments do provide the Forum with income their purpose is far greater. For a Minotaur to be acknowledged by their kind as an adult they must first prove themselves in combat before the Forum. Minotaurs also use the tournaments to test and grow their skills against the locals of an area to grow stronger. The tournaments are also how criminals are judged with death being seen as both punishment and atonement and victory as innocence.   To the Minotaurs, death and glory in battle are a natural process. Combat is seen as the key to regaining their lost glory and home. Most Minotaurs would lay down their lives for the chance to see their homeland again.

Honor Above All

Minotaurs are bound by a powerful sense of honor. Each victory brings greater honor to both individual Minotaurs and their clans. Defeat teaches and invokes a stain that only death can fully wash away.   Honor demands that Minotaurs keep their word once it is offered, and each Minotaur remains faithful to friends and clan above all else. Minotaurs rarely befriend folk of other races, as they all too often encounter them only in battle. If a Minotaur does strike up a friendship, it is typically with other creatures that display the minotaurs’ virtues and love of battle. To such friends, a Minotaur becomes an ally whose support will never waver.

Sea Clans

The vast majority of the remaining Minotaurs live in small clans that sail the world. From a single ship to fleets of dozens of ships and clans, Minotaurs constantly stay on the move because of the belief that no other land could ever replace their homeland. This has honed their skill on the water making most members of their race expert sailors. Those that live on land, while viewed as lesser or as disgraces by their kin, typically still live in nomadic clans.   While a clan can comprise of a single-family they are more often comprised of several families or unrelated individuals. During the evacuation from their homeland, many were orphaned, separated or left behind. As such the concept of a chosen family over an inherited one is held by most Minotaur. Familial bonds such as brother, mother, grandfather, or cousin carry little weight in Minotaur society whereas sworn brothers and sisters or other individuals you bond with means everything. It is because of this notion that while uncommon it is not unheard of for a member of another race to be a part of a Minotaur clan and treated as an equal or kin by Minotaur society.   Until adulthood, Minotaurs are clanless albeit they still have the responsibilities and duties of a clan member. While growing up a Minotaur can travel with any clan they wish as long as they can handle what they are given. Custom and honor demand that all clans treat the young clanless as one of their own until they come of age and fight in a tournament regardless of their birth. A Minotaur can not join a clan unless the head of the clan is there during their right of passage and allows them to join. Those that are not accepted into a clan sometimes remain clanless with the hopes of starting their own clan, an equally acceptable option.
