Goblin's Republic of Virasia

Just north of the Myeneav Mountains sits the Goblin’s Republic of Virasia. Unlike others of their kind, dubbed Feral Goblins, the goblins of the Republic have civility that far exceeds their expectations. Though they lack the magical skill and knowledge of the Hobgoblins that once controlled the area, the Republic relies on its advances in technology. That said they are by no means a technological power like the city of Wresh or Aithrol. They do however have a military that exceeds expectations. Between their heavy Infantry, Wolf rangers, vulture riders, and the Malachite Paladins, they can hold their own against their neighbors The Myeneav Dwarves and the The Holy Arbia Empire. In addition to their warriors, there are several natural strategists among their kind. On more than one occasion did a nation lose a war because the Flooding Year came while their troops were within the Republic’s land and they either pulled back or lost their forces.   To deal with the intense floods that their lands experience after every 10 years, the goblins built their cities and towns in a unique workaround. All the structures of the Republic have various supports along their outer walls. When the floods begin the structures begin to float and the supports then become anchors keeping them in place. Roads in cities and towns are designed in a similar way so that they too float on the water allowing travel throughout the settlement without the aid of a boat. As the water level goes down the structures slowly return to their place on the ground. When this time comes flap-like extensions are added to the structures to help keep the, from sinking in the mud in a way similar to snowshoes until they ground dries up again   The Goblin’s of the Republic harbor a deep hatred of dwarves or more accurately the Myeneav Dwarves. This is mainly because the dwarves are responsible for capturing and selling their ancestors into slavery shortly before the Republic’s founding. They believe that their crime is unforgivable and because of that, it is common for Goblin’s from the Republic to attack dwarves on sight.

Structure

The central government of the Republic is controlled by a congress comprised of the major land-owning nobles, elected representatives and important figures such as the Grand General of their military, Master of the Adventurer's Guild, and others. Though the factions and members within the congress are frequently changing they are relatively efficient in decision making and act as a united front.

History

Before the Republic’s founding, the area was controlled by a Hobgoblin empire that used the regular goblins as a slave force. Ten short years after the founding of the empire, known as the Kaldarth Empire, during the chaos of the Flooding Year the goblins rose up and killed their Hobgoblin oppressors. Displaying ingenuity and skills that most believed they lacked, the goblins not only survived the rest of the Flooding Year but built a civilization that functions hundreds of years later and architecture that endures the quirks of the land.
