Sea of a Thousand Isles

Stormy Sea

In the north of the world, surrounded by mountainous coasts in the south, and periodically by sheets of ice in the north, is the sea of a thousand isles. It is named such due to the many islands here. These islands are not the easiest to live on though, as this sea is plagued by frequent storms, that rip out any plant life root and stem, their rains washing the bare rock clean.

Life

Despite being a most inhospitable place to live, many still do. This sea is a hotspot for various shellfish, such as oysters, scallops, and many more. These little creatures are able to hide on the sea floor, and gulp down any nutrients that wash down from the islands. There are also a number of small fish that take their share of the spoils, especially eels, who hide between the cracks of the rocky environment, and shallow sea caves, where they can safely weather the storm.   There are also a large number of crabs here, who feed on the many shell creatures, using their strong claws to open them.

People

Contrary to popular belief, it is actually possible to live here, although it is a hard life suitable only to the strong and tough. The storm islanders are related to the dendorians, and share in their religion. These are also the only people they really have contact with, besides the occasional orc, or very rarely, the Aneira, who also have a coastline with this sea. During these contacts, they may trade their smoked eel, fresh shellfish and crabs, or pearls, their most valuable trade good.
The pearls from these seas are said to be the best in the world. They still rely on wood from the mainland tho, as nothing grows on the islands themselves, they often trade for such things with the dendorians, who also provide them with grains.   For their houses, they live in houses built from solid rock, as anything lighter will be easily blown away by the wind, and they are always deigned to easily drain water out, which is why the floors are always uneven, having drainage canals leading outside, or sometimes, to a hole in the floor, their doors are often nothing more than leather pelts, which hold back the wind, but not much more. They will also build their homes to be aerodynamic, allowing the wind to blow over, rather than against them.

Terhikai Gate

One if the islands in this sea is home to a strange magical phenomenon called a Terhikai gate, it is a powerful tool, and has always attracted mages, as a result, the only major settlement of this sea has grown around it, in the form of the Mashrae mage academy.
