Popular - Enyanian Food Trees
Tall Farms
Enyanians live in a vast forest full of trees, many of which have been domesticated for food production. Most of these trees aren't seen anywhere else in the world. All of them are either a flower, fruit, or seed. This article lists the most popular ones.Naey
This is Enyanins bread tree, they produce seeds that are processed into flour.Growth
This tree grows a hard seed. They grow in bundles of branches, at the end of each, a seed. There are male and female trees, only the female ones will produce seeds. They have small yellow flowers, and pollinating insects will carry pollen from tree to tree, fertilizing the female flowers. When fertilized, the flower will produce a small round fruit, which has a hard outer shell, and a large hard seed inside it. These seeds then fall to the ground, where they are collected by farmers. In the wild, there will be one male tree for every twenty females, but famers only plant them one to fifty, which works well enough.
Use
When harvested, the seeds are peeled, and milled to a fine flour, which is used in the Enyanian kitchen for many things, such as thickening soups, but most importantly, baking. It doesn't contain any gluten, so there are no breads like those made from wheat flour, but they do make a variety of flatbreads, and they use pig fat and naey flour to make biscuits, which are very popular. Flatbreads are a staple of the Enyanian kitchen, are seen with most dishes. They also make thin wraps, which are used for some dishes.
Srevas
Besides Its culinary use, this is also the main ingredient for Enyanian Ale, called Srevas
Umas
This tree provides the Enyanians with their version of Garlic, it is also called the garlic tree, because it provides a very similar flavor, even tho it isn't related to regular garlic at all.Harvest
Umas trees grow very easily, and the harvest of Umas sap, is easier still. This sap is stored in wooden barrels, until it can be processed. Fresh sap is not fit for consumption, and it would ruin your dish, but there are two main ways that it can be processed for use.
Processing
The simplest way it is processed is by drying it out into thin sheets, which are then pounded into a powder, this power is used as a seasoning in many Enyanian dishes, and it is also popular because it keeps very well. The second way is to boil it, and reduce it by twenty percent. The boiling breaks down all the more intense substances, making it more pleasant for consumption. This thick sap can be used as a condiment by itself, although many would find it too strong, it is often combined with eggs, and vegetable oil, in order to make Umas Mayonaise, or it is combined with goat cream, and banana, to make one of Enyanins more iconic sauces, generally served with pork.
Some say there is a little umas in all Eyanian food.
Mulhaen
This vegetable grows large pear-shaped green fruits, which are most versatile and used in many Enyanian Dishes. It has a mild, earthy, savory, and slightly sweet flavor.Growth
The mulhaen tree grows large colorful flowers, which attract hummingbirds especially, they are hermaphrodites, so each flower produces both pollen, and can be pollinated. Each flower produces a single large fruit, with a thick green peel. The peel cannot be eaten, is removed before cooking. The inside of the fruit is a firm white substance, with a up to eight black pits in the middle.
Use
Different cooking techniques have very different effects on this vegetable, the most common is baking. If baked in oil, the outside will become crisp, while the inside will become soft and smooth. If Boiled, it will absorb a lot of water, this can then be pureed, which is often eaten as a type of porridge, with bits of fruit, and nuts in it. If steamed, it becomes soft, but it retains its structure much better, this is then often eaten just like that, with a sauce. If deep fried, it will expand, and puff out, becoming crispy and hard, this is often done with narrow sticks, to eat with soup. It is also made into puree, but in that case, people use the steamed version, for better flavor and texture.
Killki
This Tree grows large flowers, the fruits are also edible, but they are not popular, people only eat the flower petals, and the pollen stems. The seeds are poisonous and will give you a nasty stomach ache. The petals are large and slightly ribbled, they are long, and have several lobes, starting with a large one, and each successive one being smaller. They taste slightly tart and bitter, and they have a crisp texture.Growth
This tree is often manipulated to favor wide spreading low hanging branches, to make it easier to collect the flowers. These branches cannot support themselves, and rest on wooden poles.
Use
They are eaten raw, in a salad, often cut into squares. But it is also cooked. When cooked, it becomes resistant and slightly rubbery. It is most often baked, or pan-fried.
Types
This vegetable is one of the Enyanian favorites, and there are several types, the most popular one is orange. There is also a yellow type, which has a milder, slightly sweet flavor, as well as a red one, which has a stronger flavor and is more bitter. There is also a light blue variant, which has a nutty flavor, and a dark purple one, which is slightly spicy.
Jraesh
This is a berry, they are the size of a plum and grow in threes. They come in the colors blue, pink, and purple, and they are very sweet, with a unique flavor. Their skins are thin, slightly fuzzy, and edible.Wreth
They are eaten from the hand, but they are better known as the main ingredient in Enyanian Wine, called Wreth. While the fruits taste very similar to each other, despite their color, the wines are each quite different in flavor, based on the color of the fruit, but also by the exact production process. Wreth is generally fermented for two weeks and then aged in barrels made from a particular type of Enyanian hardwood, these barrels are reused up to fifty times, and they are swapped out before their quality starts to deteriorate.
Lhem
these fruits are processed not only into wreth, but also into many types of liqueur, and the most popular is lhem. Made from the blue fruits, lhem has a unique blue hue, and a strong flavor, there is also a spiced variant with cinnamon, anise, and black pepper.
Most outlanders can't stomach the stuff, but the Enyanians swear by it.
