Seigĕ (ˈs̪ei̯ɣə̆ / SĀ-ghə)

Seigĕ

Seigĕ, known by Seigists as the Messenger of the Divine Light, was a prophet and founder of the Seigist faith. The historical Seigite clan and later Tribes of Elivið claimed their descent from her.   Seigĕ was born into one of the eastern nomadic steppe tribes in ancient times. In her adolescence, she was an apprentice to a shaman. During her initiation, she received a vision not from the spirit realm or the earthly gods but from the heavens. Her vision was a revelation from the Divine Light.   The ancient steppe peoples believed that the Divine Light was the original progenitor god, an all-encompassing light which existed before the world. The Light elevated various spirits to godhood but was then attacked by envious spirits who stole much of its divine power, also desiring godhood (but becoming demons due to their wickedness). The Light fragmented into the sun, moon, and stars, collectively known as the celestial gods. Each heavenly body was considered to be a god in its own right, albeit each with only a fraction of the power of the Light.   Seigĕ claimed that her vision was not a message from the celestial gods as a group, but a revelation of the Divine Light itself. She said that the Light was the ultimate god of creation and that the celestial gods were facets of it and the terrestrial gods its servants. She also claimed that the Light had chosen her as its voice to the people, that she may speak truth, and had given her the power of magic, in particular light magic.   The high priestess rejected her message, insisting that the heavens were home to many distinct gods, not one, and that Seigĕ must have been possessed by a deceiving spirit during her shamanistic initiation. The shaman, under the order of the high priestess, attempted to exorcise the spirit but found her not to be possessed. It was then that her divine role was recognized and her revelation accepted as legitimate.   The belief in the Divine Light as a still-living entity comprising all the heavens developed into an organized religion known as Seigism, named for Seigĕ and her revelation.
