Orpheus Dawnblade

Orpheus Dawnblade

Physical Description

Body Features

Human: A human of Crimean descent, Orpheus stood at five feet and four inches. He had flowing, brown hair and hazelnut eyes. When using his Gift of the Light his eyes would momentarily radiate a soft gold, and his figure would glow with a faint golden aura.   Lycan: As a Lycan, Orpheus has quite an intimidating appearance. He towers over most common folk at eight feet and one inch. His fur is completely black with no discernable patterns, and any armor Ellina is wearing seamlessly melds into his body. For those who wish to pick a fight, his claws extend several inches and occasionally crackle with energy.

Personal history

Orpheus was born on the eighteenth day of the fourth month in 1166 to Vin Orion and Nyx Dawnblade, and he inherited the Gift of the Light. His particular Light allows him to amplify the effects of his healing magic and create spheres of daylight at will. At a young age he trained with sages and veteran Dawnblades to hone his abilities. A chance meeting with Princess Ellina encouraged him to become a paladin, and he soon enrolled in the Crimean Paladin Academy.   Although records state he spent all eighteen years as a model student, he spent much of his teenage years ditching class to read at the Crimean Royal Library and giving horseback riding lessons to Princess Ellina. At the age of twenty Orpheus completed his paladin training and founded The Dawn with his childhood friends, Ellina Crimea and Urvan serving as captains. His mentor Nephenee and close friend Amy would later join as captains.   Orpheus journeyed with The Dawn throughout all of Tellius, but his final destination was in the neighboring desert continent, Hatari. Overconfident of his own abilities, he led The Dawn into a battle they were unprepared for. Their adversary was eventually defeated, but at the cost of his life. During his death he remembers briefly speaking with his Goddess before following a spark of light. When he reached the light he awoke with his soul resurrected and anchored to Ellina.   In this state he is able to exert a transformation on Ellina, and become a Lycan. When this occurs the two swap positions and Orpheus gains full control of both body and mind. He now aids Ellina in her search to revive him.   On the fifth month and the eighteenth day of 1188, members of the Sworn Seven entered Ellina's nightmare to help rid her of corruption plaguing her. They were successful and Orpheus was fully resurrected.

Education

As a Dawnblade, Orpheus began honing his arcane abilities at a young age. After training with various sages and other Dawnblades to harness his Gift of the Light, he discovered that he could enhance the healing effects of his magic. Following in his family's footsteps, he successfully completed his training as a paladin, and pledged himself to current royal family.   During the fifteen years he spent training as a paladin he also read and memorized every book in the Royal Crimean Library.   Completed training at the Crimean Paladin Academy
  • Took the Oath of the Crown, pledged himself in service of the crown, of Princess Ellina
  • Accomplishments & Achievements

Alongside his group, The Dawn, he has quelled multiple violent rebellions and strengthened relations between Beorc (Humans) and Laguz (Shifters) all throughout Tellius.   Through his uncanny ability to recall events and facts he is often consulted as a tactician for the Crimean Royal Army

    Failures & Embarrassments

His arrogance led The Dawn into a fight they weren't prepared for. Although the battle was won, he paid the price with his life.

    The Moonlit Massacres

  • The massacre of Tanus
  • The destruction of the towns, Talrega and Elipis.
  • Orpheus was directly responsible for the destruction of Tanus, Talrega, and Elipis. Ellina arrived in Tanus, heavily fatigued and suffering from a personality bleed, after getting separated from her group during a campaign of bandit camp strikes. She collapsed in the middle of the street and was taken in by a family of medics. When they attempted to administrate medication to Ellina, Orpheus awoke and proceeded to kill them and then the entire town. When the reinforcements arrived from the nearest sentry, they saw a beaten and bloodied girl lying amongst the flames of the burning village and slaughtered people. They brought her back to their station and their cleric healed her. When she was back on her feet, Orpheus once again took over and killed all fifty guardsmen and two clerics in the station.
This is the price you must pay for your life. Remember this was your choice. Learn to control it or restore order and return to death.

    Mental Trauma

His unique connection with Ellina has the side effect of causing their personalities to bleed into each other. And despite being the non dominant personality, his threatens to overwhelm Ellina's.
I'm not sure how to help my Ellina. She bares the brunt of everything, the physical strain, mental wear, and all the troubles I've forced onto her. When anything happens, whatever I feel simply surfaces to Ellina. My rage is an insufferable, uncontrollable sensation. My frustration at my inability to help Ellina and return to our original forms. And my bloodlust ... the insatiable feelings I have to destroy. I've made my Ellina into a killer.
    — Orpheus

    Intellectual Characteristics

He has a photographic memory and can accurately recall and retell events from past months.

    Personality Characteristics

    Motivation

As a paladin he dedicated himself to the throne of Crimea and swore to protect Princess Ellina. Even in his current form he still upholds his oaths, with the protection of Ellina as his only priority.
The last thing the Goddess asked me was, "What do you most regret with your death." I said I regret being unable to protect Ellina. And so she granted me a way to protect her, but there's always a cost.
    — Orpheus

    Likes & Dislikes

Likes: Orpheus likes animals (horses and pegasus), daylight, sunlight, sparring, challenges that test his cunning/wit/strength, reading for short periods, strategizing, stargazing   Loves: Ellina Ridell Crimea   Dislikes: Wasting time or doing something without a reason, passive personalities, lectures, court, darkness,

    Social

    Mannerisms

Orpheus speaks arrogantly and often, mistakenly, belittles people. His absolute confidence in himself and The Dawn is equally inspiring and annoying. With Ellina's help he's able to leave mostly positive impressions.   Because Ellina's connection with Orpheus allows them to seamlessly communicate without speech, she often forgets others cannot do the same. Orpheus frequently interjects with the omitted details to keep people on the same page.   Orpheus has a habit of leaning his head to the left when listening to Ellina. He hasn't been told of this quirk as those generally don't wish to confront him on matters concerning Ellina, even trivial ones such as this.

    Hobbies & Pets

His loyal steed Breeze and Ellina's loyal steed Minerva.
