Dwarves

Deep and ancient halls of stone, ringing with the sounds of industry through the Epochs. Stalwart defenders of tradition, history, and honor. Gruff demeanors, axes, clans, and... beards. The Dwarves of NewGen are generally what most people expect, and this is just fine by them.   Humans, Dwarves, and Elves were the dominant races in the Old World, and the New began the same way. Humans continued to explore, spread and adapt, Elves continued their path towards mastery over magic, and Dwarves carved their halls deep within the living rock of the mountains and hills of the world. Elves, in their lust for power and connection to the Fey, have largely receded from the world. Dwarves, on the other hand, were violently diminished by the Mindflayer Invasion of 1426 NG.   Once numerous, Dwarves are now far more rare, and some sages are concerned about their long-term existence as a Race. The Dwarves that remain have retained their Clan's holdings, in both material wealth and racial knowledge of metalworking, stone carving, and gem cutting. This has made these individual Dwarves fabulously wealthy and powerful. SkyHarbor, the capital city of the Dwarves, has gone from a dark hold full of Clan intrigue, to a bustling city that is the center of trade on Terra Main.   The core spirit of the Dwarven people has not changed much, despite a few Dwarves becoming rather insufferable after a generation or two of incredible wealth and little competition. Still dour, dependable, honorable, and industrious, Dwarves are still made in Moradin's image, but fewer of them go into the world as adventurers, choosing to stay home to maintain what remains of the Clan... and to repopulate it.   As such, most people of the known world hold the stereotype that all Dwarves are incredibly wealthy and will treat them from that perspective. This greatly annoys the Dwarves, regardless of actual wealth, as it diminishes their work ethic and down-to-earth worldview.
