Agorean Empire

The Empire of the Eastern River

"The treacherous Agoreans have invaded our homeland. We will not cower, but we will stand to fight them."
— King Ceas I, the Royal Address
The Agorean Empire was a nation of Elves that formed around the River Agor. Their people were the rivals of the Archaians, who conquered them in the Second Agorean War. In that war, the lands around Pythagor, their prized city, were burnt and salted, so as to prevent any grain from growing on their soils in the future.

Structure

The Agorean Empire was built around a single emperor, who chose an heir, not necessarily a relative of theirs. They ruled over the peasantry and the few noble families, who all served the Agorean Emperor. These nobles would houses the peasants, and although there were many noble families, there were only 8 that actually truly mattered individually in governmental affairs.

History

The Agorean Empire was founded in 817 BC. It was formed by various noble families, the largest of which sat on the Agor River Delta. This family was House Prota, the first house to ascend to the title of Agorean Emperor. Their soil was rich, and they grew to annex, through conquest and diplomacy, the other houses of the River Agor. The first major war they fought in was the First Agorean War, which followed much attempted peacemaking between the Archaian diplomat Petto and the Agoreans. However, his diplomacy failed, and, during a squabble over a small valley, the two juggernauts were at war. They clashed for a year, and, in 727 BC, the Agoreans relented. Then, after agreeing to an eternal peace, they fought the Archaians again in the Second Agorean War.   The Second Agorean War began in 719 BC, and ended in 711 BC, yet again in an Archaian victory. The Agoreans were annexed, and forced to obey Archaian rule. After The Cataclysm in 1 AC, the people of the former Agorean Empire revolted under a charismatic, new leader. He formed the Second Agorean Empire, the successor-state to the Agorean Empire, which promised to protect the people of the Agor River Valley from foreign rule. The Second Agorean Empire would eventually be conquered by the Kingdom of Teleucia at the end of the Dawn Era.

Demography and Population

The population of the Agorean Empire was mostly High Elves that once inhabited the Agor River Valley. The nation had small amounts of Human immigrants.

Territories

The Agorean Empire is located in the particularly fertile regions of Eastern Teleuce. The River Agor supplies silt to the lands of the Agor River Valley, and the people enjoy a lifestyle centered around agriculture. The snowfall in winter is heavy, and the entire season is exempt from harvest.

Religion

The people of the Agorean Empire had only one fact about them in common with the Archaians: their religion. Early missionaries spread the religion of Ignisianism long before their were distinct borders between the Agorean and Archaian Empires. Because of the lack of stigma they would experience with all things Archaian, the Agoreans readily accepted the foreign, new religion.

Foreign Relations

The people of the Agorean Empire despised the Archaians in their entirety. However, they had rather lax relations with other nations, further away, in lands they did not care about. They had a nice relationship with the Kingdom of Teleucia, until they were conquered by them.
