Session 38: The Storm

General Summary

First Impressions

Cul, Aurin, Paz, and Tempest meet formally, exchanging introductions before Loghain and Gloinn head off to make their preparations. Aurin takes a moment to go over the plan specifics with Ecrena. At the same time, Tempest confirms with Ganak that they’ll both be joining the assault, noting that Ecrena has a gift prepared for the Departed: the fragments extracted from the Arcane Readers used by the Holy Praetoria.

vi Sol

As Paz briefly tries on his sun and moon mask, he’s struck by a vivid rush of memories. He catches fleeting visions: his late childhood, when Ecrena first invited him to join the Revenants in Aramore; his fast-paced training and growth as a formidable member of the shadow rebellion; his initiation mission as a Seeker alongside Dyrlis and Remil; a memory of tracking a target in Elgus and wielding the mask's full powers; and a final glimpse of himself atop a raised pillar at the center of a vast, coliseum-like structure, surrounded by several unknown figures.

Final Preparations

With the war meeting concluded, the Departed move on to their final preparations for the assault on Veilmar Castle. Tempest stocks up on supplies while Cul remains at the Revenants’ hideout. Aurin checks in with her crew about her ship’s repairs, encounters some disgruntled Praetorians inspecting vessels, and ultimately secures a permit for her ship to stay in Aramore for a few days, followed by more supply purchases around town.

vi Lun

Meanwhile, Paz dons the mask again, this time experiencing a complete attunement. In a rush of insight, he realizes that the mask, Solun, can shift between "sun and moon" states, each unlocking potent, form-specific techniques. Alongside this revelation, deeper memories resurface, including the truth of his identity as a changeling, now with the freedom to shift his form at will. Paz shares these revelations and newly uncovered abilities with Cul.

Entente

Upon their return to the Revenants’ headquarters, the Departed receive a gift: two small, oblong stones made of material even stronger than darksteel, formerly part of the Arcane Readers. Ganak explains that these stones have been repurposed to cloak magic rather than detect it. Cul takes one stone, and Aurin takes the other. Ganak cautions that their properties remain largely unknown, and while possibly dangerous given their origins, they’re sure to prove valuable.

No Return

As the initial stages of the plan unfold, Loghain and Gloinn’s team successfully deploy a diversion, drawing multiple Praetorian guards away from their posts to investigate. At the same time, Ecrena, Ganak, Neloria, and Nyssa take control of the southern pass, while Tempest, Cul, Aurin, and Paz attempt to seize the transport ship from a contingent of Praetorian guards.
