Session 37: The Calm

General Summary

Muttled Drink

The Departed reunite inside the gutted tavern, grabbing a drink with Ecrena before settling in for the night. Aurin and Gloinn each down a barrel of the tavern's finest booze, while Loghain drinks more than he can handle. Aurin "carries" him to their temporary bunks in the Revenant's HQ below. Ecrena leaves the group to their own devices, simply requesting they meet in the gathering hall come morning. Meanwhile, Cul tries to circulate the plan that Ecrena has shared with him and Loghain, though the already intoxicated Gloinn is the only one listening. Eventually, Gloinn is left at the bar, drifting into an alcohol-induced slumber.

Respite

Below the tavern, some of the Departed pursue personal interests amongst the Revenants. Aurin encounters Ganak Metalweaver, the Revenants’ gruff smith, and his apprentice, Tempest. The meeting is less than cordial as Ganak brusquely asks Aurin to hand him a device from the back of the table, which he promptly destroys, extracting a small object from its wreckage. When Aurin presents her glaive for repair, Ganak refuses to work on it, leaving Tempest to offer his services instead. Aurin abruptly leaves, and Ganak and Tempest exchange quiet words, clearly prepared for a long night ahead. Meanwhile, Cul has a brief but insightful conversation with Gracey in the Revenants’ gathering hall. She questions Cul’s views on celebrations, reminding him that even the smallest victories deserve to be commemorated. Soon after, Cul and Aurin turn in for the night, joining Loghain, Paz, and Tempest for a much-needed rest.

Otherworldly

Above, Gloinn’s dreams take an unsettling turn. What starts as visions of a bright future with the Departed quickly twists into a haunting encounter with the Obelisk. It speaks to him as it has to the others, asking the same chilling question: “Do you know the true meaning of loss?” The Obelisk beckons Gloinn to touch it, promising a glimpse of something more. The moment his hand makes contact, Gloinn is overwhelmed by a cacophony of voices, all whispering the same terrifying message: “You will die alone.” He wakes abruptly at the bar, disoriented but unharmed, and heads downstairs to wake the others.

B&B

After a well-earned rest, the next day begins. Loghain and Aurin meet at Ganak’s smithy, where they find the surly blacksmith still waking up. Aurin collects her improved glaive, and Loghain makes a quick exit, leaving behind the hellhorn and thunderhoof unicorn horn for future work. Meanwhile, Cul, Tempest, Loghain, and Gloinn gather for breakfast in the Revenants’ mess hall, while Paz seeks a private word with Ecrena in her quarters.

Afflicted

Paz’s conversation with Ecrena delves into his past with the Revenants. Taken in by the resistance at a young age, Paz excels in close-quarters combat and infiltration, thanks to his unique ability to change his appearance at will. Ecrena once appointed him as a Seeker alongside Dyrlis and Remil, each given a crucial mission. But Paz returned alone, almost his entire memory wiped clean. Ecrena believes that a mask from his past, adorned with an ever-changing depiction of the sun and moon, might restore his lost memories and reveal the truth behind his mysterious affliction. She then asks Paz to join her and the others in the gathering hall.

vi Strategem Retaliata

Later, the Departed and the Revenants gather as Ecrena calls a war council. The discussion occurs in the "war room," which also serves as the gathering hall. After some playful banter between the two groups and the reveal of Loghain’s true name to the rest of the resistance, Ecrena lays out the situation. She believes they are ready to strike back against the Praetoria, specifically targeting Veilmar Castle, and with the help of the Departed, they can rescue those in need. Both groups debate their options before finally settling on Loghain’s suggestion, agreeing to begin their plan on the same night.
