Session 36: Fragments of the Past, Part II
General Summary
Pour One Out
Gloinn and Fethri quietly honor their two fallen bandmates who died in the fire. After paying respects, Gloinn leaves the Monster's Milk, determined to find a disgruntled Zero but soon bumps into a stranger outside. The Pieces of Eight
Earlier, Aurin and her crew dock their damaged ship at an Aramore port, where she notices a Praetorian-marked vessel carrying a cart draped in a blood-stained fabric. Leaving her crew to tend to the ship, Aurin heads to the Monster’s Milk for a proper drink after six long months at sea. As she approaches, she sees a large-framed dwarf leaving the tavern—Gloinn. After a brief chat, he explains the recent fire and invites her to join him at another tavern. In Retrospect
Meanwhile, Loghain, Cul, and Matriarch Ecrena further discuss the Revenants' activities. Ecrena explains that Paz, one of her Seekers, was tasked with finding information on Somnus, along with two others. Remil was sent to Zamostella to gather details on Somnus, while Dyrlis was sent to Timeston to access a hidden, protected archive. Paz was given the most dangerous task: locating a representative of the Council of Wyrms, a disguised silver dragon residing somewhere in Elgus. This information, Ecrena reveals, came from Loghain’s father, who has taken up the name "the Dread Knight." Cul and Loghain then share their recent encounters with the silver dragon Paz was meant to find, detailing their arduous events in Elgus and atop Frostfall Peak.Ratcatcher
Aurin and Gloinn head to another tavern where Gloinn is a familiar face. They chat with an ex-pirate regular named Ratcatcher, who shares his tale of losing a leg to a fearsome Aboleth. Gloinn then asks him about Zero, showing the man a rough sketch. After Ratcatcher whistles, a rat emerges from his shirt, and he holds an unconventional conversation with it. Ratcatcher reveals that his "eyes" last saw someone who looked like Zero at the Aramore graveyard. Aurin and Gloinn thank him and leave quickly as tension in the tavern rises, heading straight for the cemetery.Sanctioned
Back at the Monster’s Milk, Ecrena takes Cul and Loghain to a secluded spot overlooking Veilmar Castle, the Holy Praetorian island stronghold. She shares more of her story: the former Matriarch of the Revenants, who raised her and her brothers, was captured by the Praetorians nearly 40 years ago. Since then, the Revenants have waited for the right time to act. Now, with her brothers and many others missing, Ecrena seeks an alliance between her Revenants and the Departed to storm Veilmar and rescue the captives she believes are held there. She also mentions a Praetorian in dark clerical robes frequently seen in Aramore, whom the Dread Knight identified as a "Grand Sanctifier." Cul recognizes this title as one his adoptive father once held. Both he and Loghain agree to join Ecrena’s assault, and as they return to the tavern, the Matriarch hints at another mission after the raid.Cold Trail
At the Aramore cemetery, Aurin and Gloinn search for clues about Zero. They find a freshly dug grave and a nearby cart. Inside the grave, they spot a strange dark substance with creeping tendrils. With Zero still missing but armed with new leads, they decide to return to the Monster’s Milk. Aurin, Gloinn, Cul, Loghain, and Ecrena regroup at the tavern to discuss their next steps over drinks.Tainted Blessing
Meanwhile, Zero wakes in a dim room, lit by a single candle. She hears the creak of wood and the crash of waves, realizing she’s on a ship at sea. A familiar man in dark cleric robes steps forward, fiddling with a small device. He asks which eye she prefers, yet Zero holds her tongue. Without waiting any further, he positions the device over her right eye and activates it. A needle shoots into her eye, causing immense pain while leaving behind a dark, creeping substance slowly obscuring her vision. In her agony, Zero reveals her undead form to the Praetorian cleric before she passes out.
