Session 32: The Monster's Milk
General Summary
Haven
The Departed arrive at the Monster's Milk in search of Ecrena. Upon entering, they are immediately engulfed in the lively, if somewhat chaotic, ambiance. Drinks are ordered, conversations begin to flow, and a few rounds of cards are dealt as the group settles in. Before long, the tavern’s patrons start to open up, revealing secrets and intentions—both good and bad.Cul's Curiosity
Cul wastes no time and gets down to brass tacks, questioning anyone and everyone in the tavern. Through his inquiries, he discovers that the Monster's Milk is the only establishment in Aramore where the Praetoria is barred entry. He also learns that the bouncers are not the only muscle in and around the tavern. Notably, Cul finds out that two of the regular patrons, a blue dragonborn named Torinn and an aarakocra named Mira, have more to them than meets the eye. Upstairs, Cul engages in a conversation with a friendly half-elf scholar named Oliver Lee, a student at Whitecliff College studying exotic creature ecology. Oliver entrusts Cul with a family heirloom: _Is that Thing Gonna Eat Me?_, a seemingly mundane book on creature ecology that harbors a powerful divination spell.Wicked Games
Meanwhile, Zero participates in a friendly drinking competition with some of the tavern’s patrons. With a little help from Ivi, Zero wins 13 games, and free drinks, in a row, setting a new record for the tavern. During the friendly competition, the three men reveal that they hail from the west coast town of Whitecliff and have been hired by a student of the College to ferry him directly to Aramore. However, as Zero enjoys the victory, she returns to the main bar where she is confronted by the bartender, who ominously hints at knowing more about the Departed's activities. Just then, Zero begins to hear commotion outside the tavern’s front entrance...Truth Seeker
After some time mingling, Paz is confronted then led by three of the servers at dagger-point to an upstairs room. He is lightly questioned, but when they can’t extract the answers they want, they knock him unconscious. Paz awakens in a torture room, where two of them, now armed and armored, interrogate him further. When they fail to get any useful information, Paz is taken to meet "the Matriarch." The Matriarch confirms Paz's worst fears: his memories have been tampered with, and he truly does not remember his past. She reveals that she is the leader of a group called "the Revenants," and that Paz was once a "Seeker" for them. The Matriarch is, in fact, Ecrena, the very person the Departed have been seeking.Runes and Rhythms
While all this unfolds, Gloinn joins forces with three other musicians who are missing their drummer. Familiar with Gloinn’s past musical endeavors, they enlist him to cover for their missing bandmate for the night. The group plays for hours, riling up the crowd enough to create a pit at the front of the stage, making the atmosphere even more electric.Spoiled Milk
As the night progresses, tension rises when a company of Holy Praetoria disciples, defenders, and initiates enter the tavern uninvited, led by a grizzled aegis. He throws a broken, bloodied horn—belonging to one of the minotaur twins—onto the ground before advancing towards the front bar, where Zero sits, an inevitable confrontation about to take place...
