Session 31: Aramore
General Summary
Rest and Revelations
Loghain meticulously skinned the vipersting wyvern, the aftermath of their harrowing battle down the waterfall. As dusk settled, the crew gathered by the campfire, deciding to rest for the night, knowing they were still twenty miles from Aramore. Paz busied himself with harvesting two pounds of meat and the poison sac from the vipersting wyvern. Meanwhile, The Raven prepared lavender tea, filling the air with a soothing aroma. Zero and Cul shared a quiet conversation about the Holy Praetoria, during which Cul handed Zero an amulet gifted by the ghost children earlier in their travels.Dreadful Silence
Before sleep could claim them, a chilling vision enveloped Zero, Loghain, and Paz. They found themselves on cold cobblestones attached to the broken bridge to Somnus. For the first time, they could see each other in this otherworldly realm. They moved toward the black gate, their footsteps echoing in the eerie silence. A shadowy, limping figure appeared, pleading for help before being abruptly taken by an unseen force. A wave of dread washed over them as something seemed to approach from behind. Then, just as suddenly, they were back at their campsite, shaken but unharmed.Port Town: Aramore
The next morning, the party resumed their journey to Aramore. At the town gates, they encountered guards from the Praetoria and a stout dwarf named Gloinn Downzig, fervently tapping on a drum. A miner by trade, Gloinn sought adventure on the open roads. The party asked if he knew of Ecrena, and he directed them to the Monster’s Milk, a tavern off-limits to the Praetoria. With Gloinn’s guidance and some negotiation with the guards, they entered Aramore. Inside the town, they obtained a map highlighting notable locations, including Veilmar Castle, a fountain and statue dedicated to the "Revenant of Aramore," an immense holy temple, and a few shops dedicated to armor and blacksmithing.Memento Mori
Upon reaching the center of Aramore, the "Revenant of Aramore" statue lay before the Departed. They noticed the base of the statue bore a raven etching matching the letter Paz had found earlier. The black marble inside the fountain was inscribed with hundreds of names, one of which stood out to specifically Zero: Aurora Marri. This name triggered a flood of memories for the warlock, and with them, a familiar sinister voice: the Raven Queen. An enlightening conversation revealed much about Zero's past: her true name is Aurora Marri, and she was the liberator of Aramore from the Holy Praetoria decades ago. The Raven Queen divulged her powers to Aurora, raising her as an undead warlock to seek revenge on the Praetoria. She succeeded, and the remaining townsfolk of Aramore erected the "Revenant of Aramore" statue in her anonymous image. According the Raven Queen, Aurora visited the statue and carved her own name in its base, her final act before vanishing from Aramore - and her patron - for decades.A Spark
A glint upon the "Revenant of Aramore" caught Paz's attention. Upon the base of the statue, Paz spotted and deciphered additional text written in an arcane form of Thieves’ Cant, reading, "the Revenants light the way."The Lone Tavern on the Wharf
Armed with new knowledge, the party headed to the Monster’s Milk tavern. Outside, they saw four drunken initiates of the Holy Praetoria attempting to enter, but two towering minotaur bouncers barred their way. The stage was set for their next adventure, with answers and further mysteries waiting within the tavern's walls.
