Elgus

The capital of Jhorna stands as a radiant beacon amid a time of unyielding darkness. Nestled in the northeastern reaches of the kingdom, this vibrant city welcomes all—provided they heed the strict prohibition against magic within its walls. Those who mistakenly test this decree find themselves meeting a swift and merciless fate, with no chance for appeal or forgiveness.

Sightseeing

In the past two decades, Elgus has undergone a dramatic transformation, thanks to the stewardship of its new sovereigns, Lord and Lady Arianell. The city's skyline now boasts renovated buildings, reinforced walls, and intricate waterways, while its defenses—fortified walls, towering watchtowers, and imposing keeps—have been reinforced to withstand any threat. Among the city's many landmarks are the revered Adamantine Temple, the majestic Roost, the Sidereal Clocktower, and well-known establishments like Crazy Mike's and Plain Jane's. Hornfell Keep looms as a steadfast protector, while several churches dedicated to the Azovarian pantheon and numerous inns and taverns provide comfort to both residents and travelers alike.

A Gilded Age

Elgus has flourished under this new leadership, with its population surging to an all-time high of around 20,000. A diverse array of races and cultures now call the capital home, contributing to its booming economy. Elgus thrives, seemingly destined for greatness—though similar predictions were once made of Adura...

Pests from Below

The Departed first set foot in Elgus through the city's sewer system, on a desperate search for anyone to heal their injured companion. Along the way, they succeeded in their mission, gaining an ally, but also stumbled upon an infestation of dangerous gricks. The group managed to clear a significant number of these pests and ventured into long-abandoned sections of the sewer system.

Dread and Fear

In their exploration, they discovered a breathtaking sight: an enormous cavern, with what appeared to be a city floating in the far distance, suspended over an endless abyss. But before they could investigate further, they encountered an even deadlier threat lurking below the city—a ravenous creature known as a flamelurker.

The Silver Parade

After vanquishing the immediate threats in the sewers, the weary Departed emerged through a manhole into the heart of Elgus. Exhausted, they sought refuge in the nearest inn, the Green Snail Inn, where they rested and reflected on the events of the past two weeks. Morning brought new intrigue, as they were greeted by an unfamiliar face—Zee, one of the six members of the elite Empyrean Legion. After a thorough interrogation, the group stepped outside, only to find the city gathered in grim fascination. A grand parade-like procession had formed as the other five members of the Empyrean Legion escorted the mangled corpse of a young silver dragon to Elgus’s city center...

Demographics

Humans, elves, dwarves, half-elves, and halflings dominate most of Elgus's race demographic. Though they are in the extreme minority, many other Azovarian races make Elgus their home, including goblins, goliaths, shifters, dragonborn, kenku, and leonin. Elgus tends to have the wealthiest individuals live close to the Adamantine Temple, where the sovereigns reside. From there, the "circle of wealth" becomes quite apparent with those living in the worst conditions closest to Elgus's outer walls. The city doesn't seem to have any shortage of jobs, either. Many trades and businesses exist within Elgus. Not only these but government and military jobs exist, too.

Government

Elgus is ruled by a Diarchy: both Lord and Lady Arianell share the decisions that will shape the future of the city, and those within it. An order must have the blessing of both sovereigns. More so, one cannot overrule the other. A unanimous decision must be reached. Luckily, the couple does entertain a council of experts as a reliable source of information and ideas. Though they may not always adopt the ideas from the council, they consult them regularly to avoid making rash decisions that may impact Elgus in an overly negative way.
