Wyvern
Wyverns are widely known to be the lesser cousins to the true Dragons. Whereas Dragons were rumored to possess the ability to communicate and hold higher reason, wyverns are seen as brutes. Still, the point must be pressed that wyverns and Dragons share a distinct connection, even if it is bound in magic and not culture, for most wyverns seem to comprehend the Draconic language even if their physiology denies them the ability to vocalize. This has allowed very limited domestication within some cultures.
Wyvern subspecies are diverse and display a variety of habitats, shapes, and abilities. A common theme with wyverns is the use of poisons, as most of them utilize it, though certainly not all. Amongst them, there are as well, certain breeds that have evolved an ability to spout jets of flame, much akin to the Dragons of legends, although not anywhere near the scope and power of a true dragon were tales of fire hot enough to melt stone or carve new valleys find evidence in ancient ruins and famous historical collections.

Basic Information
Anatomy
Distinguishing features of wyverns are long slender bodies carried by strong hind limbs and a voluminous upper torso, given flight by powerful leathery wings that also serves the function of forelimbs for the purpose of an ungainly form of quadrupeed locomotion.
Genetics and Reproduction
Wyverns lay leathery eggs that harden soon after exposure to the elements. The number of eggs varies a great deal depending on subspecies.
Ecology and Habitats
Most commonly found, but not limited to where a combination of open planes and rocky terrain mix. Mostly they are to be seen in the mountains, where they can secure safe nesting. Wyverns tend to be quite wary of open water, and only a few species live by fishing.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Wyvens can live quite contently on carrion but are exceptional apex predators, sometimes fully capable of taking down prey larger than themselves. A few varieties derive most of its nutrients from fish, though that is certainly not the norm.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Wyverns are attributed to exceptionally keen sight and smell, reportedly being able to locate live prey or cadavers from many miles away.
