Castle Abocath

An intimidatingly beautiful castle rises out of the side of a mountain, surveying its kingdom. This expertly sculpted fortress is the home of the Royal Family. It is here that they hold audience with visitors and here that they maintain their Royal power.

Purpose / Function

This castle is the home and office of the Royal Family, and it has been since its construction. Its many rooms were built not only as a luxurious place for them to live and work, but also as a place to house servants and foreign dignitaries as well as the royal treasures.

Architecture

This castle was built to appear as if it were growing out of the mountain itself, which, in a way, it is. The back regions of the structure are carved out of the natural stone and the stone gathered from the hollowing of the mountain was used to construct the rest of the structure. The internal layout of the building is fairly simply designed, but to those unaccustomed, it can be confusing. Both internally and externally there are intricately carved decorations adorning corners and alcoves, signs of the master craftsmanship of previous generations.

External Design

Because of its size and location on the side of Mt. Tomid, Castle Abocath can be seen from miles away and is impressive, even at such distances. Its five spires rise far above the rest of the structure and form the highest artificial points in the kingdom. At regular intervals across the walls of the castle are gargoyles carved with such skill that they are indistinguishable from their living counterparts.

Internal Design

The main entrance opens to a large atrium which has direct access to the throne room. Also on the ground floor are the kitchens, dining room, ballroom, and other areas for entertaining guests. On the second floor are the living quarters of the Royal Family, guest bedrooms, and a wing for the servants' chambers. The various rooms of the castle are arranged along wide hallways that form the simple 'skeleton' of the building. Connecting these halls are archways with keystones carved to resemble various flowers or animals. This arch shape is mirrored in many of the windows which line the outer walls. The walls, floors, and ceiling are all built of the same stone as the rest of the castle, but many rooms sport lush rugs and carpets, and fine tapestries adorn the walls of the hallways. Built into many of the walls are small alcoves which hold artwork, sculptures, busts of historical figures, and other such decorations.

Castle Grounds

Surrounding the castle itself are the castle grounds. They feature a well-kept garden, a small area where the resident guards can train, and a temple dedicated to Lawlii.
