Adran Naïlo
Adran Naïlo
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Adran is unhealthily thin, though he's stronger than he looks.
Identifying Characteristics
Two handprint-shaped scars sit on either side of Adran's head, as if somebody had grabbed him by the temples. They are a faint purple color, though, as magical scars, they do not interrupt hair growth in the area. This is to Adran's advantage because he likes to use his hair to keep them covered.

Personal history
Adran was born to an elven mother and a human father who both loved him very much. Though they were by no means wealthy, he had a happy childhood. He got an apprenticeship at the Hothgren Public Library at the age of 15 and, when his parents both died in a tragic accident a few years later, he was taken in by the grumpy head librarian. There he lived out the rest of his childhood alongside his fellow apprentice and best friend, Hope.
One day, when he was about 20, he and Hope discovered an ancient manuscript in the back of the library, and everything changed forever. The manuscript was written in a language unlike any of them had ever seen before, and Adran was determined to translate it. This proved to be his downfall, for, about three years later, when he proudly presented to Hope the single page he'd been able to translate, he accidentally summoned an ancient eldritch monstrosity, Y'Chak, which killed Hope and broke his mind.
Adran was ultimately blamed for Hope's death. This, on top of his burgeoning madness, forced him to eventually leave his home, taking The Book with him, and start a life of wandering under the instruction of his new eldritch patron.

Education
Apprenticed to the local librarian at age 15, Adran received an education on a wide variety of topics. Alongside his education in how to run the library, he read many of the books available to him on subjects including history, magic, philosophy, etc. His favorite was linguistics, which led him to attempt the translation of his book.
Mental Trauma
The cost of understanding the written form of Deep Speech is one's mind. The more Adran began to understand the text in his beloved manuscript, the more he lost his grip on reality. He suffers from hallucinations, strange dreams, and paranoia, all of which are worsened exponentially when he is without the book.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Adran is motivated to act out of a deep thirst for knowledge. He can't let a mystery go. Whenever a question presents itself, he has no choice but to find the answer. He follows his patron's every instruction not only because it would otherwise kill him, but because it has promised to show him secrets beyond mortal comprehension.
Social
Religious Views
Adran is an unwilling follower of Y'Chak. After he accidentally summoned it, it claimed him as a prophet and forces him to do its bidding. Over the past three years that he has been in its service, he's had to steal, assassinate, raid cults, act as a diplomat, even try to start his own cult, though those attempts were unsuccessful due to his low charisma.
Social Aptitude
Adran has pitifully low charisma. He doesn't much like people and people tend to be frightened by his obvious madness. His tics are off-putting and he has a tendency to be very blunt when he doesn't like something or someone.
Speech
Adran swears like a sailor.
