Ink Sickness

A tiny squid known as the Qillas attaches to the brainstem and releases a degree of ink into the bloodstream that will destroy the nervous system. This allows the Qillas to feed on the psychic agony of the individual.
Causes
The Qillas is the root of the condition but even after removed the disease will not end.
Symptoms
Crippling pain, insomnia, mood swings.
Treatment
Removing the Qillas is the first step but will only limit the progression of the disease.
Prognosis
Most die rather quickly in agony, a few have mastered the pain and though permanently weakened they can control the Qillas.
Affected Groups
Anyone can be afflicted.
Prevention
The condition is rare but the Sea Hell is not forgiving.
Epidemiology
The Qillas will mostly bind to fish and seagoing mammals and it is rare they attach to land dwelling animals.
