Artaius the Paragon
Summary
Artaius was the first of Yn'vay's great heroes. He defeated the Tyrant Akulk'Jar of Elgas in single combat, broke the spine of the Kraken Daedalus, outraced Champion and seduced the Angel. He is revered above all others in Yn'vay. He was the first Hero and will be remembered till the world is naught but dust.
Historical Basis
Though fantastical in many stories Artaius was born to a middle class smithing commune and learnt of bladework there. It is said he was strong and diligent and excelled at combat. It is known that he fought as a soldier for a rough period of five years before going out into the world. Though hard to confirm many stories those that have been speak great deals for the veracity of the claims.
Spread
The name is famous but beyond Yn'vay the colossi mean little.
Variations & Mutation
Three variations on the norm stand,
One Artaius was actually Argaman a contempary that took up the role when Artaius met his end under unknown circumstances and continued Artaius' legend.
The second being the usual tale of Artaius being the progeny of Champion or the Angel and being a demigod that would bring Heroism to the world.
The third speaks of Artaius the smith, a man whose accomplishments were achieved by a collective known as the Brotherhood of the Anvil that worked in creating devices and employing them to heroic effect and Artaius being but the leader or perhaps most known member of said group.
Cultural Reception
In Yn'vay the legend grows and twists but remains relevant today as the light of hope in the dark.
In Literature
There are many tales of Artaius but the most important books about him are the life of the first colossus (the official biography of the man by Aureni Taliios) and The Paragon (By Errisotle) a collected work of popular tales and the most famous stories.
In Art
Due to the colossus' nature the man is remembered much better than others and many icons exist of The Paragon. Less songs remain but in winged embrace is a particular ballad penned by Merlanti bard Fredrick Joyous being a well remembered favourite.
