Charred Woods

Everything looked so recent. Ashes still trailed lazily through the air, embers glowed on the ground that tendrils of smoke rose from. The blackened ghosts of tree branches reached into the orange-hued sky like emaciated limbs. The sweet smell of burning wood still lingered, though it made Marshall shudder.   "Where are-are we?" He asked.   "The Charred Woods," Prosper's voice was hushed. "The angels live here."
The Charred Woods was once a part of the Light Woods, until it was burned in retaliation for the murder of an angel by humans. There are still human ruins remaining in it, though it is largely a mass grave, filled with the burnt, blackened skeletons of the humans killed 1,300 years ago.

Geography

The Charred Woods lives up to its name in that it's been burned down until there is nothing left. The trees have been stripped down to the barest of limbs, turned pitch black by the flames that consumed them. The ground is the same, turned a mottled gray by the mix of ash that falls steadily from the sky. The water sources evaporated long ago, and occasionally in its place will sit a boiling, black, tar-like substance. Cracks spread out from these pits, the rock heated red and molten within them. The sky itself is dark gray and cloudy, tinged with blood reds and oranges of what looks to be a sunset. The terrain itself is quite flat with few hills.

Fauna & Flora

There are few species that remain in the Charred Woods after the burning of it in 712. The most common to be found are Wildings aligned with fire, such as angels, fire elementals, and flame nymphs. The plants are long dead with the only hints of them ever thriving there being the blackened, burnt tree trunks, some still with weak branches that have managed to stay attached.
