Hunting Steps Spell in The Wild Cards | World Anvil

Hunting Steps

The most common of the Nine Shadows, though underestimated because partial control is not often recognised. This Tarot ability allows its user to channel animal instincts, greatly enhancing their combat skills. From the hunting of a wolf, to the vicious blow of a bear, and the keen notice of an eagle, a fighter using Hunting Steps is not to be taken lightly.   At Novice level, users tend not to even realise they're using a Tarot ability. As their skill level develops, they start getting conscious control over channeling these instincts. The ultimate skill levels combine with partial transformation or summoning similar abilities, so that they gain not only the instincts but alsowhatever physical component goes along with it.   There are myths about former heroes that could see in the dark or at enormous distances, or that would partially transform into an animal, claws and all. It is assumed that these were in fact Master level users of the Hunting Steps. This should not be mistaken with Tarot Monsters, where one's transformation is involuntarily, uncontrollable, and caused by an external catalyst.

I like the inclusion of the myths that could be people using the spell at master level. Intriguing. Sounds like a useful ability to have. :D

Definitely useful, and unlike some abilities, it also is useful in peaceful times, such as when hunting.
