Drunkard's Touch Condition in The Wild Cards | World Anvil

Drunkard's Touch

Caused by a Scarlet Wasp's sting shortly after it has mated, the Drunkard's Touch venom causes its victim to lose all inhibition. While no detailed research has been done into the precise effect, it appears to be identical in effect to the special Tarot ability Mindless Voice.   The Academy's theory is that the Scarlet Wasps use this specific ability, inflicting it through their venom. Injecting animals with obtained venom does not appear to cause the same results as an actual sting, strongly supporting this theory.   Drunkard's Touch being caused by Mindless Voice suggests it won't cause its victims to do things they don't want to do. Instead, it causes them to do things they want to do, but are normally restraining themselves from doing. Investigations into victims their stories again seem to support this theory. Because the venom, like alcohol, causes its victim to lose their inhibition, it has been labeled the Drunkard's Touch.

Process

On initial sting, a victim will start become more mouthy, being more sincere and very blunt about their feelings and opinions. While initially resembling a drunkard's looser tongue, this will process further until the victim will even expose their deepest desires, without caring about consequences whatsoever. The victim will be so caught up in their ranting, that they may not even notice any (self-)inflicted injuries.   The next stage is physical agression, seeking out violent resolutions to perceived slights. At first this will be at the level of punches, over the next hours this will begin to escalate into extreme violence, seeking to greatly harm or even murder others. Again, this appears to be mostly aimed at people the victim already disliked. When fighting with friends that confront them, a victim will not hurt them as badly as those they hate.   The lack of self-control will turn worse for a while, with the victim not only losing perception of their own physical condition, but also developing an utter disregard for it. They may die from injuries in a fight, break bones trying to bash through doors, or injure themselves trying to get out of restraints. However, if a victim does not die, they eventually collapse from exhaustion.   By the time a collapsed victim wakes up again, they will have returned to the stage of lessened inhibition. Eventually they will recover entirely. While social and physical damage will remain, so far there is no suggestion of a long-term mental impact. However, results are limited because Scarlet Wasps are wiped out when discovered, rather than studied further.

I like the play on the wasp sting - drunk state thing. Blaming the insects makes it somewhat refreshing. :D
