Nautiloids
Once a part of the great race of Illithid, or Mind Flayers, Nautiloids live beneath the island of R'lyeh's Rest.
Unlike the Illithid of Attlefell, Nautiloids are not under the direct control of an elder brain resulting in freedom unlike their cousins can understand. The Nautiloids do feast on the minds of beings, like the Mind Flayers, but they d o not require the minds of sentient beings for sustenance. Tis fact may be, at least in part, the reason that Nautiloids have a much weaker psionic ability than that of their cousins, the Illithid.
Basic Information
Growth Rate & Stages
Nautiloids have a cyclical procreation that starts at the egg stage, then larval, finally forming into a youngling Nautiloid.
Ecology and Habitats
Nautiloids live in a vast cavern system underneath the rocky island of R'lyeh's Rest in the Hollow Isles.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Nautiloids have attained the ability to sustain themselves on a omnivorous diet for weeks at at time, but still must feed on the mind of living prey, else their minds become savage, then weak, and eventually, lead to the Nautiloids death.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
At the time that they reach the youngling stage, Nautiloids are adapt at seeing in the dark at rages of up to 120 feet, while more experienced Nautiloids have been reported to be able to see in the dark as far as some see in the day.
Nautiloids also retain some of their inherent psionic ability allowing them to speak into the minds of a willing target and also receive messages back in the form of thoughts. They may even sense the minds of those around them to a certain short distance.
