Moon Elf

The Moon Elves are an elegant and intuitive elven subrace that once braved the vast oceans of Suna, settling its many islands in ancient times. Drawn by the call of exploration and the serene beauty of the open sea, these graceful folk built their lives in harmony with the water. Known for their amicable and sociable nature, Moon Elves are the most outwardly friendly and approachable of all elven subraces. They excel in fostering relationships, both within their communities and with other races, often serving as mediators and envoys. Their innate intuition and empathy make them keen observers, adept at understanding emotions and navigating complex social dynamics. Moon Elves are deeply connected to the ocean and its rhythms, drawing inspiration and guidance from the moon's phases and the tides. Their culture reflects this connection, blending artistry, music, and spirituality into their daily lives.

History

The Moon Elves began their storied journey from the northern coast of Eren, embarking on a great voyage across the sea. With curiosity and determination as their guide, they explored island after island, seeking a place to call home. Eventually, they settled on Suna’s largest island, where they laid the foundation for what would become their thriving civilization. During their journey, the Moon Elves found themselves guided by Mene, a luminous goddess who appeared to them in visions and through the moonlight. Mene bestowed them with celestial boons, enhancing their intuition and granting them the wisdom to navigate the seas with remarkable precision. Her guidance became central to their culture, and her name is still revered in their prayers and traditions. As the Moon Elves expanded across the islands, their interconnected communities flourished. They developed a network of waterways, turning the surrounding ocean into a bustling trade route. Their expertise in shipbuilding and navigation revolutionized maritime travel, and they became pioneers of cartography, mapping the seas with unparalleled accuracy. The culture of the Moon Elves grew alongside their settlements, blending artistry, spirituality, and a deep respect for the ocean’s mysteries. Their reverence for Mene and the moon shaped their traditions, with festivals and rituals celebrating the tides and lunar cycles.

Geography

Moon elves live mainly within Suna. They have a heavy presence within the larger islands, mainly Sirelina and Marilune. Duskstar is the seat of their main religion, The Lunari Path, and also holds the largest population of their kind. Due to the reach of Suna's trade practices, it's not uncommon to find moon elves in other communites worldwide with a bustling coastal population.

Relations & Society

Moon Elves are markedly the most well acquainted elven subraces with species outside their sphere. This is largely thanks to Suna and its widespread network of trade and reach within the global market.Because of this, they are socially the most amenable to co-existing with races outside their own, and many of their traditions and spiritual beliefs are based around travel, safe passage, community, and open-mindedness and creativity. In a related development, this also holds the quirky observation, that the vast majority of half-elven offspring found throughout the world are half-MoonElf.

Elven Respite - Some elves do not require sleep in the traditional sense, supplementing their evenings with a form of meditation that recovers energy and focus just as well as sleeping. They can feel as well rested as if they slept a full night's rest within the span of just a few hours within an uninterrupted special trance-like meditation state.
Water Soul - A maritime lifestyle has allowed you to develop a truly impressive skill in the water. You may be able to swim notably agile on the surface and underneath the waves. Or perhaps you have a truly impressive sense of balance thanks to plenty of time traveling aboard ships and unsteady sailing vessels.
One with Tides - The moon and sea are important and even mystical entities to moon elf culture. You might be able to breath underwater like seafolk, or perhaps you have an uncanny ability to always know your orientation in relation to the moon or cardinal directions you are travelling in, even if the night sky is not in view.
