East Azmith Trading Company
An economic company from Linnel that runs and oversees the colonies and activities of the Linnel colonies in the Fire Region's Coast. Act fairly autonomously from the crown as long as they keep in his favor.
The East Azmith Trading Company (EAC) is a sprawling, powerful entity that has shaped the colonial expansion of the Lindin Kingdom into the Fire Region. Operating for nearly 150 years with a special charter from the Lindin crown, the EAC functions as a quasi-independent faction, blending corporate interests with colonial governance. Its priorities are clear: profits take precedence over politics, and the exploitation of the Fire Region's resources drives its operations. The EAC operates more like a sovereign power than a mere trading company. Its leadership comprises a Council of Directors, based in the Lindin Kingdom, who oversee the company's vast operations and ensure alignment with the crown’s interests. On the ground, colonial governors and military officers manage the day-to-day affairs of the Fire Region, all of whom answer to the company rather than the Lindin crown directly. This autonomy stems from the EAC’s special charter, which grants it broad authority to govern, trade, and enforce laws within the Fire Region. In return, the company must deliver a substantial share of its profits to the Lindin treasury and remain in the king’s favor. As long as these conditions are met, the crown largely turns a blind eye to the EAC’s often ruthless practices. To secure its interests, the EAC maintains its own private army composed of hired mercenaries, conscripts, and company-trained soldiers. These forces are tasked with protecting trade routes, suppressing uprisings, and ensuring compliance with company policies. The EAC's military is well-funded and disciplined, rivaling the armies of some smaller kingdoms, and operates with near-total impunity in the Fire Region. This militarization is a double-edged sword. While it ensures the company’s dominance, it has also made the EAC a symbol of oppression, particularly among the native populations and dissenting settlers who chafe under its rule.
The EAC is both revered and reviled. To its supporters, it is a beacon of Lindin’s ambition and a driver of unparalleled economic growth. To its critics, it is a ruthless, profit-obsessed juggernaut that prioritizes wealth over human dignity and environmental stewardship. In the Fire Region, the EAC’s rule is synonymous with exploitation. Its colonial cities are marked by stark divides between the wealthy company elite and the impoverished laboring masses. Protests, rebellions, and acts of sabotage are common, but the company’s military might and political influence ensure that these challenges rarely threaten its dominance.
