Introduction to TWD: Rewritten
It was the summer of 2015 at a McDonald's, stuffing our faces with french fries, that I finally convinced my mom to start watching TWD due to her crush on Daryl Dixon despite never seeing a single clip of the show. In less than a month, she binged the first three seasons and we watched season four together before I made her sit and wait another month until AMC re-aired season 5 over the course of a weekend in August and we taped it. Then, she binge-watched that season and started whining when she finished it, knowing she had to wait for the season 6 premiere in October.
And that is the tale of how I got my mom obsessed with a zom -- ahem -- walker show.
Now, it took a few years before we started delving into talking how our OCs for the series could change the outcome of certain character deaths. We knew we were metagaming the series, but we wanted to have fun while geeking out over a show we loved and bonded over. On top of that, we started adding "magick" to the mix, coming up with how our favorite mythologies could have a play in the series. My mom brought in the Greek mythology while I centered on Nordic. Our conversations would soon lead us to realize we needed a place to write all this down, so here we are!
This world has been connected to the Pathfinder 2e system with homebrew content being made daily. All Pathfinder 2e books are welcome to be used. However, if any adventure guides are being used, please talk to the TTRPG SystemKeeper of Tales before looking through them as spoilers may apply.
Rewriting Portions
The story of TWD can be told many ways as there are plenty of fanfics where the main group has an extra member on the team - usually the reader or an OC. TWD: Rewritten follows the same plan, except the story will be darker with brutalized combat and ancient mythology thrown in. If there's a way to rewrite character deaths, we will. This will also cause certain outcomes or death consequences to change the path of other characters (like Maggie Rhee if Glenn never died). These changes might be for the better, or for worse. And some villains may get a redemption early on. Expect character backstories to be altered to fit this alternative universe of TWD.One thousand and five hundred years ago, the world was filled with the ancient mythologies of Greek and Norse. With humanity worshiping the gods so greatly, they forgot just how much gods have needs of their own. Thus, the calamity of Ragnarok overtook the godly plane and shook the realms to their core, with some gods believing they should reside solely in their domains and not venture to meet with mortals. These gods won the war, separating mortals from their gods and casting the polytheistic religions into darkness. The gods and their Champions fell out of favor, forgotten and forbidden. Although, some gods ignored the divine rules set before them and met with mortals anyway, few producing demigod children and others keeping their Champions at arm's length. Now, in the year 2020 AD, where the mortal plane has succumbed to an unrelenting darkness of disease and corruption, people struggle to survive. This world has been overrun by the undead, or walkers, as humanity calls them. It is unknown what caused the plague, yet most see it as a means to be cruel and harsh, even in relaxing times. It has been ten years since the outbreak occured, leaving 75% of the mortal population wiped out. You, dear player, will be playing as someone who was either born into this apocalyptic world or has dealt with its hardships for all these years. However, there may be hope. After returning from killing Alpha and scaring Beta into submission so the walker horde could eat him, you oversee a caravan of militarized troops in white plastic armor heading in the direction of your former home, Alexandria. Fear rushes through you, reminding you of all the dangers you have faced in the past ten years. These people cannot be good. Corruption seems to ooze off them, especially the nicely dressed man who seems to lead them. Do you dare risk returning to Alexandria in an attempt to see if these people are dangerous for the future of the world? You're damn right you do...
