Hugo

Hugo has been working primarily as the attendant, valet, and secretary of the infamous Duchess Alesia Jordaine since about IY 1046.
Hugo, originally an orphan of little consequence (hence the lack of surname), worked his way up through the ranks of Jordaine's civil service until the Duchess herself recognized his incredible skill and work ethic and appointed him to his current high position.
That is, if you believe the official story. I would normally not mention some obscure servant in the social pages of this guidebook, but Mister Hugo's disinclination to answering questions about his past, his noble bearing, and his generally aloof demeaner have made him an object of fasciantion among central noblewomen. Could he be the unfortunate bastard son of some minor Ouronian noble, as the gossip might speculate?
There's many a lord's daughter who would be glad if that was the case, since such a connection might convince thier father's that Hugo was an acceptable marriage prospect.
In all likelihood, Hugo is who he appears to be and nothing more. But if you ever find yourself at a party where Duchess Jordaine is present, you may look for the servant standing by her side and attempt to judge for yourself who he may be. If nothing else, such speculation could make for a mildly interesting way to spend an evening.
