Lycanthropy

Lycanthropy is a condition where a human has the ability to shape-shift into a werewolf. Their body transforms fully into a bi-pedal canine form complete with full-body fur, sharp claws, and sharper incisors. Lycanthropy also can cause uncontrolled rage which usually accompanies the transformation. Due to this condition, werewolves are classified as non-humans even though most are able to maintain their human form for long periods of time. Unlike some illnesses, lycanthropy is incurable however it is not a degenerative sickness and most people born werewolf or afflicted are able to live full lives, disregarding societal sentiment.

Transmission

Lycanthropy has the ability to be passed down in the blood via birth however this is typically among werewolf partners. Lycanthropy can be inflicted upon someone if a werewolf, in their lycan form, bites or claws them and draws blood. It is not a guarantee but the more carnage levied on the body by a werewolf the more likely the lycanthropy is to spread.

Only non-oridan humans can be infected by lycanthropy, vampires are more vulnerable to the physical attacks of one inflicted with lycanthropy however their body composition and lack of blood flow prevent transmission.

Origin

The origins of lycanthropy is one of the great legends of the Veil. The Curse of Garou, was so pivotal in shaping the world that it footnoted an end of an era. The introduction of lycanthropy into Veilen society was the precursor for the separation of humans and vampires causing a massive rift in the populace. It was Garou's action in his final days that made lycanthropy a mainstay of the Veil.

Reception

Due to its incurable nature and the stories that surround the Curse of Garou, lycanthropy can be a fatal condition. The Kingdom of Luorra, the Scarlet Dominion, and the Church have deemed it necessary to eliminate all werewolves. Therefore being born with lycanthropy or being inflicted with it is a serious issue that has caused many to move to remote locations or work extremely hard to keep their lycanthropy hidden.

"Taming"

Many of the Garou Bands, nomadic werewolf refugees, believe that lycanthropy is more of a blessing than an affliction or curse. Some seek to "tame the beast inside" embracing their lycanthropy fully and abandoning their humanity.
