Planetary Governor

Planetary Governors are the legally recognized rulers of individual planets within the Terran Space and members of the Allied Assembly. The position is created upon recognition of the planet, moon, asteroid station, or orbital station in question as a valid, inhabited part of the Allied Terran Systems. Unlike most parts of the Allied Terran Systems governance, the position itself is not elected or appointed by the leadership of the ATS but rather is appointed by the local political structure of the planet or planetary body itself. One of the early provisions of the Allied Terran Systems being accepted as the governing body of early colonized planets was the ability for self-governance by the individual planet while still serving as a part of the collective defense and support that the ATS provides.   This has led to many interesting situations on planets that are not unified under one specific governing body or method of legislation. Many planets within Terran Space are the result of multiple corporations, factions, or investors sharing resources to colonize the planet but seeking autonomy from their colonization partners. To accommodate that, one of the provisions to join the ATS was the designation of one specific leader to speak in the Allied Assembly on the planet's behalf. This has led to a range of Planetary Governors who vary from tyrannical rulers, democratically elected officials, members of the currently dominant faction, or even an individual from a third-party organization dedicated to this singular purpose with no real political power on the planet they represent.   However the Planetary Governor was elected, they hold the single vote of the planet that they represent and may even take a position of greater power within the Allied Assembly to serve as Regional Governor or even Leader of the Assembly. This has caused interesting debates before the Allied Assembly where a member holds greater power despite having their actual planetary appointment revoked through civil war, infighting, or dissolution of their organization.

Duties

Planetary Governors serving in the Allied Assembly are expected to bring the needs of their planet to the Assembly as well as enforce the will of the Assembly on the planet they represent.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The planet that granted the title of Planetary Governor may revoke the title at will due to planetary politics, but they must have a newly appointed representative within 2 weeks or risk removal from the Allied Terran Systems.
Planetary Governors may be forcefully ejected from the Allied Assembly and no longer recognized as the official representative of the planet if a Vote of No Confidence succeeds against them. This vote is only called if it is proven that they have failed to enact the will of the Allied Assembly on their planet, actively sought the detriment of the ATS, or hold their title against the active wishes of the planet they claim to represent.
