Early Colonist Techniques

During the late 2000s into the 2150s, the Universal Manifest was in full swing. Colonists were eager to leave the failing and overcrowded Solaris System to find their own paradise in the stars. These dreamers wanted to escape the squalor of Earth at the time.   In most cases, the rich had their own ships or worlds already. Only the destitute or desperate wanted to forge into the stars. This left a disparity in the cost of buying or building a massive colony ship while the rich had no cause to. As such, it was common practice for most colony ships to charge a "travelers fee" along with a "service period" where they dedicated themselves to the colony's success. These fees would all be combined into the common cost of buying the collective ship for the new colony. This often wasn't enough, so commonly the Frontman of the colony would cover the remainder of the cost that remained. They would do this with benefits that befit their financial risk, offering them something that only money could buy. They would often require a position of political power or administration in the new colony to "insure their risks".   Upon arrival, all travelers would then be required to hand over a part of their earnings to the colony and while the majority would be used for the colony's survival, the Frontman would take a portion of the collective gains until his costs were recouped. In a new colony dependent on collective resources, this often ensured actual power for the Frontman.   This practice was commonly exploited by the wealthy for positions of control in these new worlds. Class conflict became commonplace and riots, revolts, and "mutiny's" were problematically common. This practices waned heavily after the War of Colonization as Core governments solidified their borders and rampant colonization slowed to a trickle under the rumors of atrocities committed upon unprotected colonies by Krasian Meritocracy during the war.
