Datapad

The Datapad is still the most commonly used device in the Rim, Core, and on many ships. Though the Holo and even Mindscape technologies have swept through the Core systems like a crazy, the functionality of a physical datapad allows the user to store data for easy transit between systems, to interact with other systems on a ship or station, and keep their files and personal information secure. It is a rare professional who is found without a datapad in these modern times.

Appearance

The most common look of a datapad is a single-sided screen tablet.

Variants

HoloPad

The latest, expensive model of datapad looks like a watch. It is a small, square object that is attached to the user's arm and projects a holoscreen over the arm when interacted with. It uses a combination of the latest holotechnology along with the old datapad format.

MindJack

Though rare outside of the Core due to the lack of Mindscape availability and the cost, the MindJack is a small cylindrical device that looks very similar to a CredStick. It is plugged directly into a surgically added slot to tie into the user's neural system (typically through the base of the neck or a port run through the crook of the arm). This allows the user to access their personal Datapad in the a personal Mindscape environment and even to access the wider Mindscape if available. For an upcharge, the MindJack can be biocoded to only respond to a specific implant to ensure that no one but the user can access the files stored on the MindJack.

Significance

They are used widely throughout all of Human Colonized Space.
