Skaronien Fleet

"Our ships reflect our natural talent; we were born to fly"
The Skaronien fleet is statistically speaking the smallest fleet out of all the major factions, however it has something very important other factions do not; cooperation. The Skaronien fleet, just like their council of leaders, is made up of a varying number of different races, each with their own unique ship designs for different purposes. This means the Skaronien Council will always have a ship for the desired situation.   Skaronien ships alone however are still a force to be reckoned with, they have advanced subsystems and weapon technology that rivals, in some cases even surpassing the bigger factions.

Assets

The Skaronien fleet's primary role is defending council territory, while attacks on enemy sectors have been carried out, their primary tactic is to bait enemy fleets in to their fleet, where they may strike the crushing blow.

Ship Design

Skaronien ships are artisanal works of art in the eyes of the designers, they are as aesthetically pleasing as they are deadly. Their ships are characterised by curving structures flowing across the body, smooth hulls and limb like appendages that snake across the polished surfaces like tree roots.   Skaronien ships do not follow a strict design quota like the Sirasions or Necrophytes, their ships are made according to the need. However, the Skaroniens have been finding significant success with ships following a similar design to their Albatross heavy cruiser in having a massive bulwark at the front covered with armour plating and extra shield generators, as well as bristling with guns, with the rest of the ship protected behind it. This gives Skaronien ships effective forward firepower.   A staple of Skaronien ships are their signature Red Matter cannons, with many weapons on the ship being based off this incredibly powerful and volatile source, it means Skaronien ships often carry less weapons than other ships, but make up for it in the firepower of the guns they do have, this allows them to re-rout power to other sub systems such as shields and engines.

Redmatter

Redmatter as a resource is used in a number of Skaronien engineering. In their navy it is used in their weapons and engines. Redmatter as a weaponized substance uses implosion rather than explosion to cause damage. Redmatter weapons fire focussed beams that upon the point of contact create an area of intense physical mass, causing immense physical damage on the target area, crumpling armour plates and compromising shield integrity. Redmatter weapons are used sparingly along side other energy based weapons onboard Skaronien ships for their tendency to be just as dangerous to their host ship if they are destroyed, but when compared to other ship based weapons of their size and class, there is no equal.   When it comes to propulsion, a different form of Redmatter is used in the form of Redmatter energy cells. These energy cells are created as a by-product of Redmatter production and in essense are just high powered energy cells that function the same way as conventional powercells.

Naming Conventions

The Skaroniens are a race that never had contact with humans or planet earth until relatively recently in their species history. Their own planet, which heavily favours avian life such as themselves, plays host to a variety of birds with their own unique names, which in turn makes it strange that Skaronien ships bare the names of Earth bird species. The reasoning for this is the avian life on Skarah have unique names in the Skaronien language, which consists of a lot of chirps and whistles many other races cannot emulate. The solution to this was to name their ships with more common names according to the most spoken language; Galactic Common. They found that Galactic Common derived from English language of planet Earth, and from there on found examples of many birds that bore striking similarities to their own likeness. The trend at first was only experimental, but it stuck. Now many, if not all Skaronien aircraft and star ships are named from Earth avian species.

Small Craft

Sparrow-2   Role: Air superiority fighter   Powerplant: Single core Redmatter Engine   Weaponry: x2 Redmatter repeaters, x1 Redmatter implosion detonator.   The Sparrow-2 is the most recent iteration in the Sparrow fighter series. It's main asset is its dizzying manoeuvrability that allows it to out fly even the most advanced fighters from the other factions, able to make turns on a dime, all the while keeping the pilot steady in a gyroscopic cockpit that rotates independently of the rest of the body. This feature allows the pilot to keep eye sight on the target as well as coordination especially in atmospheric battles.   The Sparrow is small, being roughly half the size of most conventional fighters, this allows a large number of them to be stored on clamps on the roof of fighter hangers. In addition to this, they also have no form of landing gear, relying completely on repulserlifts to keep the fuselage off the ground even when the power is off.   The only major downsides to the Sparrow's design is its small size doesn't allow for the installation of a hyperdrive, as well as a powerplant big enough to provide a significant speed advantage over it's opponents. Despite these downsides, only a fool of a pilot would dare engage it in a close in dogfight.
Kestrel Bomber   Role: Light Bomber   Powerplant: Single core Redmatter engine   Weaponry: x2 defensive turrets, lower mounted missile launchers   The Kestrel is the Skaronien's primary light bomber. Similar to the Sparrow it is small in size it carries only the necessities armourment wise. It is used primarily atmospherically to launch strikes from high altitude, but also finds service against enemy ships. The preferred tactic with the Kestrel is to attack from high above, it's payload being a selection of guided and un guided missiles held in tubes underneath the fuselage. These are expelled at a 45 degree angle straight down which insures the ordinance hits the target quickly and with precision.
Condor Bomber   Role: Heavy Bomber / Space Bomber   Powerplant: Single core Redmatter engine   Weaponry: x1 Redmatter Cannon, x2 Redmatter repeaters, Redmatter imploders   Initially, the Skaroniens were very against the idea of using bombers due to their destructive nature, believeing there was enough way to achieve the goal without causing as much collateral damage or putting crew in harms way. Phoenix Ascendancy leader Drek'thul however strongly disagreed with this notion. Before he left the council he had the Condor bomber designed. This asymmetrical design was something no one, not even the Skaroniens, expected to work as a combat aircraft, but it showed extreme promise in tests and later went on the prove its worth against the Sirasion Contingency.   The Condor has a large, 2 person cockpit. one person responsible for piloting with the other managing the bomb bay. The Condor carries a compliment of Redmatter imploders; Large, spherical bombs that are mounted on rails within the fuselage. When ready to be launched they are loaded into a firing chamber and pushed out with a repulserlift surge toward the intended target, using mostly inertia to determine the speed of the projectile.   Because of the bomber's configuration, naturally its center of gravity would not be the cockpit. However it is equipped with gravimetric stabilisers that allow the crew to alternate the ships center of gravity to either the cockpit or its natural center at the mid point of the wing, allowing the Condor to pull of complex manoeuvres.
Ospray Heavy Fighter Role: Fighter / Bomber Powerplant: Tri-core Redmatter Engine, M-1 Jump Generator. Weaponry: x2 heavy Redmatter repeaters, x6 Redmatter missiles, x4 implosion bombs Instead of the traditional space saving designs of other aircraft, the Ospray is built with maximum multi role capability in mind. It is an effective fighter, with the profile of a striking cheetah its butterfly wing design gives it perfect balance in a dogfight while its sturdier powerplant and structure allows it to carry much more ordinance than other fighters. The ospray carries enough weaponry to annihilate an enemy vehicle convoy while also fending off enemy air attacks. In space it is a perfect frontline fighter, having decent armour and shields to stand against anti fighter turrets and other fighters. With its standard armourment of bombs and missiles it can easily switch roles if the need requires. The Ospray's versatility however is also it's downfall. Compared to the Sparrow it falls flat on manoeuvrability and compared to the condor it cannot carry as much in the way of pure bomb load, however, it is faster than both in a straight line.

Corvettes and Patrol Craft

Peace Pheasant   Role: VIP Transportation / Reconnaissance   Powerplant: V1 Redmatter Drive, class-m Hyperdrive   Weaponry: None   The Peace Pheasant is dedicated reconnaissance ship which primary purpose is to sneak undetected into enemy territory. With its advanced array of sensor jammers and stealth fields, including a fully functional cloaking device, it is incredibly difficult to detect. Though as an odd contrast to its stealthy recon role, some variants of the Peace Pheasant are kitted out for diplomatic visitation and used as a personal transport for Skaronien politicians going about their business.   PLACEHOLDER = = = = = =   Kestral Light Corvette   Role: Anti Fighter   Powerplant: V1 Redmatter drive, class m hyperdrive   Weaponry: x2 rapid fire turrets, x1 Redmatter beam turret, x2 Redmatter cannons   The Kestral is a simple design made for a singular role; the destruction of enemy fighter craft. it comes equipped with only a few weapons that wouldn't scratch a larger cruiser, but are deadly to small, agile fighters. Commonly this ship is used as part of an escort group, hanging in behind the main force as the fighters get in close, then it swoops in to deal the damage.   The kestral is also very manoeuvrable and excels for combating other ships of its size. For this reason it is an excellent anti piracy vessel.

Light to Medium Cruisers

Falcon-3   Role: Frigate   Powerplant: V3 Redmatter drive, x2 sublight engines, class m hyperdrive   Weaponry: x2 light turrets, x4 heavy cannons, Gravatonic Destructor cannon   The Falcon is arguably the most famous ship in the Skaronien fleet, being praised by crews and captains alike for its effective layout and capable characteristics. While it may be small in size, the Falcon boasts massive fire power in the form of its Gravatonic Destructor, an experimental weapon that builds on the concept of Redmatter based weaponry. The weapon is essentially a super charged Redmatter beam cannon that encompasses much of the front half of the ship. The weapon is so destructive it can crumple smaller ships into dust and claw out great holes in bigger ones. The Falcon also has a small fighter bay containing a single squadron of defensive fighters, allowing it to operate as a system patrol vessel also.   Over all, the ship is very well rounded and only really falls short when faced up against a bigger ship with too much armour or shields for its main gun. When it comes to other ships of its size and class, it remains one of the best.
Falcon-4   Role: Stealth Frigate.    Powerplant:   Weaponry: x6 broside cannons, x2 forward facing Redmatter beam cannons.    The Falcon-4 is a medium frigate designed with utility in mind. It was intended for the Falcon-4 to completely replace its predecessor with a more fluid and up to date design more conforming with newer Skaronien fleet design conventions, however as it turned out, both designs complimented each other, with the falcon 3 being more destructive and the falcon 4 being faster and more manoeuvrable. Eventually it was decided the Falcon-4 would be re-equipped as a stealth ship, designed to come out of hyperspace with stealth enabled and sneak around enemy formations to gain the upper hand.

Heavy Cruisers and Battleships

Mallard Heavy Cruiser   Role: Capital ship warfare.    Powerplant:   Weaponry: x8 heavy broadside batteries, x4 medium broadside batteries, x6 medium turrets.    The Mallard was designed directly as a response to the Sirasion navy as a counter to all the long range fire power they had in their possession. Instead of fighting fire with fire, the Mallard opts for good full frontal speed a strong compliment of broadside weaponry. Featuring very few turrets, the Mallard's weaponry is comprised almost entirely of broadside batteries designed to wreck havoc on enemy ships at close range. The intention behind the Mallard is to get in close with the enemy ships before they can deal damage at long range.
Albatross Battleship   Role: Capital Ship Warfare, fleet defense.    Powerplant:    Weaponry: x8 Heavy forward facing redmatter beam cannons, x2 medium broadside batteries, x2 rear facing triple turret batteries.    The Albatross is the jewel of the Skaronien fleet, it is considered one of their most mighty battleships, designed to spearhead the thrust into combat with its vast number of heavy weapon batteries and shield generators. Physically, the Albatross is designed with a large front bulwark that is heavily reinforced with armour plating and shield generators so it may protect more fragile ships coming in behind it. Within this large superstructure are housed multiple shield projectors, alowing the Albatross to focus its shields into an umbrella like dome, projected out the front, allowing other ships to position behind it and be protected from harm.    The Albatross has been praised for its design conventions, with many other Skaronien ships in their planning stages being adapted to more resemble this powerful battleship.

Superheavies and Unique Ships

Dread Eagle   Role: Superheavy capital ship destroyer   Powerplant:   Weaponry:   The Dread Eagle is a unique capital ship
