Session 13: Shadowy Fallout

General Summary

The party found themselves tired and panting in the clearing with the gate to the Shadowfell, now with the second shard of the Broken Eye reunited with the amulet. After resting for a while, the group discussed what to do next. Aurora and Apieros wished to go back to Alfenstria to make sure that it was safe after they had broken the spell that bound the shard underneath the city. Trinky and Quinny weren't as inclined to return to a city where they might now be wanted. Ravojhan on the other hand didn't seem to have any overhanging opinions in either way. In the end, after Apieros paid Trinky 10 gold, she agreed to go back with them, leaving Quinny in the minority.   Thus the group went back towards Alfenstria. When they reached the edge of the woods leading up to the wall of the city, they saw several carts that seemed abandoned. When Trinky snuck closer, she could hear a commission from inside the city. The carts themselves carried the banner of the Silvestra Numina. One of them seemed to be a prison cart with a man chained on it, as well as bloodied white corpse tied to its back. Upon closer inspection, this turned out to be the wing clipped body of Kleech. Trinky immediately went into a fit of rage and jumped the only living soul in the vicinity, the chained-up man. With her dagger to his throat, she began to question him on what had happened to Kleech. Meanwhile, the others left their cover and approached the carts as well. When they reached the carts they too saw what was going on and the corpse of their former companion.   Quinny got Trinky off of the human, making her run away in grief. Quinny followed her as the rest interrogated the human. He introduced himself as Julian De Maldonado Llorenço De Los Santos, a cleric of Iomedeae who has embarked on a self-made crusade on orcs and necromancers. He had approached the elves of the Silvestra to convert them to his cause, when they denied him and revealed their own faith he shunned them as heathens. The angered order then beat and chained him. He could do nothing but watch as the order found the Aarakocra bathing in a spring. The order captured, beat, mutilated and finally killed the Aarakocra who refused to yield the location and plans of the party to the order.    They freed Julian who agreed to join them, claiming to be a capable healer. As he went to get his stuff, the party found the belongings of Kleech, which they divided amongst themselves. Whilst Trinky, who had returned on Quinny's behest, stole the order's stolen gold, Aurora picked up Kleech's magical feathered cutlass. Whilst Trinky, Quinny and Ravojhan began to bury Kleech, Aurora, Apieros and Julian headed into the city. As they entered they realized that news of the shards disappearance had spread and the Silvestra were now rounding up all non elves, half-elves and anyone who protested their activities. What they did to them was obvious on the screams of terror in the distance.    As they made their way further into the city, a voice called to them from inside an alley. It was their father. Aurora, her brother and the cleric ran into the alley. The old elf was confused as to who the cleric was, but he didn't have time to further investigate. Instead, he explained that the Silvestra was furious with the disappearance of the shard, and was now searching for the thief. Knowing that only he and his son knew how the shard was bound to the village, and hearing his daughter talk about it, Thandurion Elsys figured that it was the QQQ that had taken the shard. He explained that he would do his best to buy the group as much time as he could for them to escape the city. He also gave Aurora the fake shard and explained that it had been created by her mother when the two of them sealed the shard in the Shadowfell. He took farewell of his children and left.    As they were about to leave, Apieros turned back. Telling his sister that there was something he had to get in their old home, he promised to catch up with the group. Auorora tried to stop him but there was no time, as she and Julian left the city. They met up with rest who had finished burying Kleech. They said a few words before hurrying of north towards Belham and the Dragonfen. After traversing the forest all day, they finally reached the end just as the skies darkened. They had made it through the Feyfire forest. Now they stood before a road leading north. After following it for a while and reaching a bridge crossing the Conerica river, they decided to camp by the treeline of the Feyfire.    Whilst the party rested, and Quinny kept watch, the elf was suddenly startled by a smell. He tried to recall what it was, but was somehow remembering it as the smell of a unicorn. He awoke the others. When he pointed out the smell, Trinky jumped up, clearly remembering it from her youth. It was the pungent smell of Worgs. They prepared to fight, except Trinky who hid. When the worgs encircled them and begun to approach. The leader barked in a tongue familiar to Trinky. It was giving orders in Goblin. She tried to confuse them by screaming in goblin herself. This made the leader of the worgs call out her name. It turned out to be Trinky's childhood puppy, Bork, all grown up.    She approached him and the worg suddenly became a puppy all over again, but now the size of a horse. When the other worgs began to close in, Bork stepped in. Putting him between the pack and their pray. The hungry worgs attacked. The party rushed to Bork's defense, with Trinky shooting arrows into the work biting her puppy. Aurora stepped into the mists and vanished, reappearing on top of a nearby cliff, with a better view of what was happening. This allowed her to get a clear shot into the neck of a worg biting at Quinny, killing it. Ravojhan did the same, but appeared by some nearby trees, and then used his magic to put two worgs to sleep. Quinny on the other hand charged and managed to cut down three worgs within seconds. making a pile in front of him. Julian proved himself a masterful healer, instantly removing the wounds on Bork. He then shot magical arrows from his fingers into another worg. In the end only one worg managed to escape.    The party then returned to their rest, now one member richer as Bork joined his former owner once more.
