Order of the Nail

Knights of Civilisation

Assumed to be a reorganised chapter of the Order of the Godclaw, the Order of the Nail arrived as part of the first settlement of Ponvarus  in 1309 AM. Their vision of society is completely dominated by their idea of “orderly civilisation.” To this end, they violently oppose those who reject or act against the advance of organised societies and name them savages and delinquents. By common, law-abiding people of urbanised societies, the Order of the Nail are generally seen as vanguards of prosperity and keepers of peace, as they sponsor new infrastructure in frontier settlements and enforce justice even in the most lawless parts of cities where they have a presence. Still, their organisation is only slightly less feared than the harsher Hellknight orders, and most would seek to avoid confrontation with them. Hellknights of this order are trained builders, inquisitors, and peacekeepers. Aside from the Measure, this Order's principal legal document is the Charter of Civil Advancement, commonly called the Hammers and Nail.

Their headquarters is the lightly-manned Bastion of the Nail in Ponvarus.

Culture

This Order are strict enforcers of the Measure and the Hammers and Nail. As a result, they tend to be at odds with representatives of established judicial systems and organised town militias. Like the majority of Hellknight orders, most of their income is generated from independent contracts, generally as mercenaries sent to cleanse crime-ridden pits in shady districts.

Public Agenda

The goal of the Order of the Nail is the advancement of civilisation. This mainly includes:
  • Eradication of banditry
  • Maintaining public safety
  • Ensuring the completion of new buildings
  • Ensuring that trade goes uninterrupted

Savagery must be quelled,
in the land, home, and mind.
