Well of the Twin Worlds

With glowing runes on every single stone, it's clear to even the casual observer that this is no mere well. The language of the runes has been studied time and time again, but none can even recognize it. Legend paints it as the script of the gods, themselves.   The Well of the Twin Worlds is believed to have existed for as long as the Twin Worlds, themselves. Its ability is a simple one: it allows one to travel instantaneously between Amaun and Kirris.   Both the location that it is found on either world and the destination vary wildly. It has been noted that these locations don't seem random. Instead they seem to be based upon some unknowable design. For this reason, it is believed that the Well is a servant of the Divine Weave.   The Well has been reported in many legends throughout all of history, but for the longest time the destination was unknown, as none had returned from the other side. The first person known to have done so was the renowned gnoll wizard Ratagar of Rall.

Significance

The primary reason that the Well is so special is because travel between the Twin Worlds is so rare. Traditional teleportation requires that the caster to have seen the location, an obvious damper on the attempt. Magical flight has been attempted, but the vast distances mean any who attempt it either plummet to their doom, or find themselves trapped in the space between.   Because of the unstable nature of the Well, other portals have long been sought. These portals are rumored to exist deep within the impenetrable depths of the wilderness of the Twin Worlds, but none have ever been found.
