Jann

To those who study the Planes, the races of geniekind are no mystery. The efreet are the masters of fire, the djinn lords of air, the marid sovereigns of water, and the dao kings of earth. What most of those don't realize is that there are genies of all elements at once. These are the jann, and the Material Plane is their home.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Unlike the humans they so closely resemble, jann are elemental beings. This makes them magical in nature, granting them powers of elemental manipulation. These abilities are much less powerful than those of other genies, however.
Unlike their fellow genies, they are much more closely tied to their material nature. This means that they do require food and water, although far less than humans. They are also capable of breeding with humans. These offspring are more likely to inherit sorcerous abilities and are technically genasi, although they are human to all appearances.

Facial characteristics

Jann are practically indistinguishable from the humans of their desert home. This means that they are tan-skinned with dark hair and eyes. The jann are typically taller, and more athletic than these people. The also have a strong tendency to be very attractive.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The jann live exclusively in the Aljanni Desert, which is named after them. They exist primarily on the northern regions of this vast desert, where the shifting dunes of fine sand seem endless. They have just as much freedom to go where they wish as any sentient creatures, but their rigid culture prevents this.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The jann live in nomadic tribes under a very rigid code. Their peaceful ways and their methods of surviving their harsh homeland earned them the respect of some of the humans who came to their homeland. Some of these people adopted their ways, even calling themselves Janni.

History

The history of the jann is not well-known. They don't have writing, and don't typically tell their stories to outsiders. As far as most in the desert are concerned, they have always walked the dunes, and as far as any know they always will.
The only way their history is passed on is through the stories they tell one another. According to such stories, they are born from all the other races of geniekind. Some of these beings put aside their hatreds to live among each other in peace.
These creatures fled their kin, and settled in the Material Plane. They formed their tribes and wandered the desert to stay ahead of the vengeful genies. Eventually, their time around one another started to change them. They became creatures of all elements, and eventually even became mortal.
