Great Tundra
Few places are even close to as harsh and unforgiving as the Great Tundra at the very top of Amaun. This is not only due to the cold weather or the lack of food. This is the home of the ice elves .
Geography
As the name suggests, the Great Tundra us a massive open plain, covered in snow and ice, even in the middle of summer. It rests in the north pole of the world of Amaun. As such it has constant light during the summer, and total darkness during the winter.
During the Month of the Sun (as the local ice elves call it), the shining frost attracts the energies of the Feywild. During the Month of the Stars, the dark desolation falls under the influence of the Shadowfell.
Fauna & Flora
There are very few beings inured to the cold enough to make their homes here. The few plants such as the snow rose, or darkthistle that do grow are heavily magical, and often considered to be sacred by the local population.
The mundane creatures that live here almost exclusively survive using a great deal of fur or blubber. Such creatures include penguins, walruses, polar bears, and actic foxes. A number of magical creatures exist here as well, such as yeti and remorhazes.
Natural Resources
The Great Tundra has an almost complete lack of any natural resources. As such, the ice elves that live here use ice for almost every purpose, from constructing buildings, to forging weapons.
They survive by herding muskoxen and caribou, as well as growing a special berry they call induvennin. They also fish in the frozen, treacherous seas near their great cities.
Almost no one has any interest in the polar tundra at all, which is good because the ice elves are known to attack outsiders on sight.
