Falling-Star Blades

Steelshadow & Heartbreaker

Two swords, strangely bound together, these weapons are one of the more unusual pieces of the Twin Worlds' history. These blades are, in a very real sense, soblings. they are source of many tales, true and false, heroic and tragic.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The enchantment of the Falling-Star Blades is a mystery. Lond was a simple blacksmith, and Avela Darkwood was not an enchanter. The leading theory among scholars is that the metal itself is magical, but some have literally gone mad studying their mysteries.   The swords, themselves are siblings and therefore require attunement by a pair of siblings. The enchantment generally grows in power as the wielder does, and its specific effects vary based on the individual wielder.   In example, Heartbreaker improved Avela's magical endurance, allowing her to cast more spells than most mages. Steelshadow, meanwhile, improved Larrison's striking and parrying speed, making him a much deadlier swordsman.

History

The story of their creation is surprisingly humble. A meteor fell from the sky, only to be recovered by a simple small-town blacksmith named Lond. He did most of his work in nails and horseshoes, so he waited to use the strange metal until he had a good, suitable work.   This would come when the man's son was captured by slavers. He hired a pair of young adventurers to recover him before they reached the Gnollmarket. These adventurers' efforts failed, leading to the death of the son. Even though these adventurers, Larrison and Avela Darkwood failed, Lond still meant to reward them for risking their lives.    He melted his meteorite and made two swords. The larger of the two went to Larrison. This was a hand-and-a-half sword he named Steelshadow. The smaller, a longsword, went to Avela. She named her new weapon Heartbreaker.   The material is very fine, dark metal with delicate swirls of color all over it. The handles are covered in simple black leather. The design, itself is very simple and lacking in decoration, owing to their humble construction.

Significance

As with any other legendary weapons, the Falling-Star Blades are strongly associated with the deeds of their wielders. As the most famous wielders, and the ones for whom they were made, they are most associated with the Darkwood twins.   They are different from many other legendary weapons, such as Dominion and Defiance as they have had many wielders. Because of the unique nature of their attunement, they have come to be associated with the bond between siblings. The stories surrounding them often reflect this, often being of such a bond broken or made eternal.
