Six years ago, Riku Strak’s life was shattered in an instant.
Born to two prominent members of the Iron Council—the ruling body of Stormreach, the world’s greatest city—Riku was raised in the heart of its gleaming towers and strict order. A city of innovation and iron, where magic is banned by ancient wards and the gears of progress never stop turning.
But then the explosion came. A terrorist attack killed nearly every member of the Iron Council. Only one man survived: Toren. In the aftermath, he declared himself emperor, seizing absolute control in the name of stability.
Riku, just a boy at the time, was swept up in grief and patriotism. He poured his genius and sorrow into crafting the Iron Champion armor—a masterwork of design and devotion. For years, he served as a symbol of hope and loyalty to Stormreach. A hero.
But the shine has begun to fade.
Whispers don’t match the stories Riku was told. Emperor Toren’s obsession with acquiring his armor grows more aggressive. And then, weeks ago, Riku was ambushed on the streets of his own city.
He survived—thanks to a stranger.
A half-elf named Roderick pulled him from the fight and revealed what Riku had long feared: he was being watched. Not as a hero, but as a threat. Toren, Roderick claims, won’t rest until the armor—and Riku—are under his control.
Now, Riku travels with Roderick aboard the Zephyr, the world’s first airship, heading for the distant settlement of River's Edge. There, Roderick promises he’ll find allies—and a man named Alais, another hero quietly exiled from the city for asking too many questions.
Stormreach may still call Riku a hero. But the truth may force him to become something else entirely.
