University

Universities exist in this time though they are not what people might think. Each is a school that is linked to a monastery, and teaches further scholarly information to students. The students have a tendency to be monks, priests or young noblemen, with the latter being able to pay (at least adding to the coffers of the monastery in question), and usually having a close relation as a priest or bishop. They teach languages, like Greek and/or Latin, medicine, science, religion, and some politics, as well as reading & writing. They generally do not have he same structural or independence from religion or politics as 21st Century universities. Usually only teenage and young adult males could attend. Most if not all at least in Europe is run by monks.   The Middle East has the beginning of universities too, and tied in with mosques, as well as filling a similar niche as European universities. It is likely the Islamic schools that led the way for the rest of the Western World.
