The Wild Westerly Firestorm

The Wild Westerly Firestorm recently came to light of the Frankish & Anglo-Saxon Courts. A number of wetland areas to the west firstly in the south-west of Britain, and to a lesser degree in the north-west of Brittany has been noticed. Ancient tales speak of it happening before on & off, nearly always with the onus being laid at the killing of a member of a Witches Coven. It is named as it has only been noticed in such western areas that are seen as 'wilder' than the 'civilised' lands of the nations beside them. In part, this happens due to the use of magic with a lack of connection to the natural world.   The most recent incident has happened at the borderlands between Wessex and the lands of the Cornish in southern Britain. A Witch called Andrea was assassinated by a the use of knife in her back. Thought to be carried out by an assassin hired by the local Lord, Geoffrey of Lambrookshire. A known witch hunter with a hatred of magic, and highly religous (Christian), he would do anything to wipe out the Witch Covens in or near his lands.   Hiring a Boundy Hunter from Frankia, a Reauld Armand with connections to the Ulmist Inquisition, Lord Geoffrey paid handsomely to kill of at least one of this Coven. Both of their tracks were expertly covered up, and Armand escaped to the continent where he was last seen around the Frankish town of Eschbach. Lord Geoffrey is still there and now worried, as he has now got word that the two remaining Witches has created a human vessel to fill the space of their murdered 'sister'. He is now on the prowl in Europe looking for the one who killed his 'ancestor' as he contains elements of her spirit.   Rumout has it that Lord Geoffrey has done this before and has been getting help hunting down many of these Witches. Many say a cloaked horrific looking old woman is helping him identify potential Witches. She is paid well, being given items belonging to the dead where possible. Why no-one knows, tho a few refer to her as a Crone or Hag. Geoffrey also has built up connections with the Ulmist Inquisition, and in constant contact with them.

Manifestation

The actual effect appears that any plant in the region seems to catch fire. The smoke can be seen for a number of miles away and any plant material took into it burns up too upon crossing into it. On top of it a slight wailing can be heard in it's boundaries and sometimes the smell of burning blood can be picked up too. The size of it seems to be decided on the power of the Witch in life, whether she was a member of a Coven, and whether she was murdered / assassinated in cold blood.

Localization

It seems than when a Witch is killed in a deliberate act of murder, a part of the land that they inhabited burns. Regularly used by the Witch in general if not her overall Coven, her blood must be spilled on the land from where she draws her power. It spontaneously bursts into flames burning for a month and a day. Nothing is able to grow in the burnt area for a year and a day.
