The Wasted Badlands
The Wasted Badlands exist in perpetual gloom. It is a strange land that constantly shifts and cracks, with openings appearing letting anything above fall into hot magma pools. Constant dust storms are blown across it on strong winds, with these able to rip into unprotected skin. No life at first seems to live here but it does. No plant life or animal life seems to be here but for a couple of strange presences. Also a grey twilight hangs over the whole place otherwise.
Given that the region is currently hidden from the world at large is probably a blessing. It seems to follow it's own rules appearing here & there overlaying a region of a few square miles. When this happens it seems cut off from the rest of the world by a permanent swirling dust storm that never settles. Those that spend too long in the badlands eventually die of dehydration and the biting dust storms, if not eventually falling down one of the cracks that randomly appear.
Exactly what causes this is unknown at present though worn down ruins in the surrounding storm seems to indicate that it was originally part of the Shadowfell. Why it split off and mutated into this is what drives many an explorer and sage. How many of these that have disappeared in it is currently unknown. What is known is that it appears at the start of the month of October and disappears at the end of it.
One thing is known is that there appears to be minimal life here, and something is seen in the haze of the storms that regularly blow across it. A tell spndly creature almost black in colour with twisted in shape with horns that appear as twisted as the rest of it's shape.
At times this is replaced with a shadowy dragon-like presence in the storms flying high, and those few that make it out before the end of the month report that it appears that the odd dust storm is split in two and when both meet it appears that both are fighting in the middle of the superstorm that follows.
Both make roaring screams heard miles around almost mimicking the sounds of the storms themselves. The creature and storms appear almost primordial and are generally thought of as such. Since no records nor remains are found of either nothing can be truly verified. Just the shifting landscape and the constant possibility of disappearing forever.
